Changing Language Schools On A Non-Immigrant Ed Visa

Featured Replies

Hello - I'm new to Thaivisa, but had a question I was hoping somebody knew the answer to:

I'm currently studing Thai Language on a Non-Immigrant ED Visa, but have become dissatisfied with the quality of the instruction as well as the province that I'm currently in. Ideally, I would like to move to a new language school in a different province. Is this possible without leaving the country and having to do the visa application process all over again, or is there some way to transfer language schools without too much difficulty? I'm also concerned that the fact that we're talking about different provinces is going to make things more difficult . . .

Hi,

I haven't actually done it, but I've inquired in two schools on how it can be done:

1. You need a "letter of resignation" from your current school (some sort of letter saying that you stopped studying there - they are supposed to know what it is)

2. You will probably need a "Clearance Certificate" from the police. In bkk it's done at the police headquarters in Rama 1, and it takes 2-3 weeks to get the certificate.

With these two documents in hand, your new school should be able to handle the necessary process at the Ministry of Education.

Cheers

Best to ask the schools invlved, but might be difficult. If you are on an extension of stay based on study, you will probably have to cancel your study at the old school and start the new school on the same day.

Thanks for the info. It looks like it will have to be done quickly and that my current school will have to cooperate in the process to make things work. I just want to avoid losing/getting my current ED visa cancelled and having to leave the country and start the whole process over again. I'm guessing that everything will have to be done by mail since the school I want to attend is in another province and I have to stay here and continue attending my current school (to maintain my current ED visa) until all the documentation is ready. What is the "Certificate of Clearance" from the police for?

It's a requirement for changing a school on ED visa, you have to give it to your new school.
