I'm interested in the same and believe you can get an agreement for a Vietnam visa online, then they send the details to the immigration at the airport where you collect it.

The trouble is how do you know if you can trust the firm, maybe just easier to go to a travel agents anywhere in Thailand and they'll do it for you?

Go to the Embassy and apply.

I am a Canadian citizen and went last week to the embassy in BKK and was charged THB 1,800 for a 1 month single-entry tourist visa. At first they tried to charge me even more, assuming I wanted next-day pick-up. I told the man I was not in a rush so he charged the 1,800 and said come back in 3 days. He said that is the cheapest fee. I think it is outrageous. It is about US$60 whereas on the Vietnam embassy website there is a fee sheet that says $30 for this visa (I only saw it after I bought my visa). If anyone knows a cheaper way please let us all know for future.TG

Yes, what you do is pick one of the firms advertising on-line Vietnamese visas.

Supposedly you will apply via their on-line form and they will issue an approval letter which you then carry to Vietnam.

Supposedly you can pay by credit card.

HOWEVER, I just tried this procedure and had the following problems:

1. My Master Charge card (ATM/debit) card issued by a U,S, bank....one the firm's claimed could be used was NOT approved, This may be due to my U.S. bank and new security procedures that bank has just started.

2. They wanted me to pay by PayPal because my Master Charge card was declined....but I don't use PayPal.

3, The company I was using wanted to add a 2.5% charge for paying by Master Charge card.

4. If you apply on line for a Vietnam Visa you will be charged a $25 "stamping fee" on arrival in Vietnam. This "stamping fee" is to actually put the stamp into your passport on arrival.

Therefore the real cost of an "on-line visa application" for a Vietnamese visa is actually almost $45 dollars.

So, considering all that, I found the best and cheapest way here in Bangkok was to physically go down to the Vietnamese consulate with a printed copy of the form you can download from the consulate yourself and fill out but not sign,,,, you sign the form in their presence.

It cost me 1800 Baht plus taxi fare and it takes 3 or 4 days for non express service, Express service is 2 days I believe and costs 500 Baht more, You can pay in Baht,

For me, that was the easiest way.

I simply got a single entry tourist visa good for a 30 day stay.

Be aware, that they seem to be very touchy about the exact date your visa starts. In my case I will arrive in Vietnam on the 21st of December, They informed me that if I arrived early they would NOT be pleased .... and your arrival and exit dates are on your application form.

They didn't seem to worry about you arriving one day late, but they specifically said not to arrive one day early. Don't know why.

P,S, See another topic that after 1 January 2013 Vietnamese visa fees are increasing by approximately 80%
