BANGKOK: -- Two Cabinet ministers from the Abhisit Vejjajiva government were summoned for questioning by the Department of Special Investigation yesterday over the crackdown on the red-shirt protests in 2010, which led to more than 90 deaths.

Former interior minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul and Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa were summoned yesterday over their role in approving the creation of the now-defunct Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) that oversaw the crackdown on the protests.

Chumpol retains his portfolio in the Yingluck Shinawatra Cabinet and also serves as deputy prime minister.

Deputy DSI chief Pol Colonel Prawase Moonpramuk, who is leading the probe, said he questioned the two men about details of the special Cabinet meeting on April 7, 2010, at the 11th Infantry Headquarters, which led to the declaration of the emergency decree.

Both provided similar information but their testimony cannot be publicly revealed, Prawase said.

In all, 13 Cabinet members took part in the special meeting and the DSI would be summoning others beginning tomorrow.

Prawase said investigators would also be questioning military officers, including Army Chief General Anupong Paochinda.

The DSI will also seek to summon Somchai Homlaor, a former commissioner of the now-defunct Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand and might request that commission chairman Kanit na Nakorn also appear.

A warrant for the arrest of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been issued by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions.

The warrant, issued on Wednesday, is connected to a case involving 11.58 billion baht in loans from state-owned Krung Thai Bank.

The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) filed malfeasance charges against Thaksin and 26 others, including the former KTB president Viroj Nualkair.

The case involves a batch of KTB loans provided to the affiliates of Krisdamahanakorn Plc, a major property and real estate firm.

According to the charges, KTB approved large loans to the firm's affiliates, despite Krisdamahanakorn being classified as a non-performing debtor of the bank.

All of the defendants, except Thaksin, appeared before the court and denied the charges.

Why oh why must you deflect the thread from the crimes of one man onto another. This thread is not about Thaksin its about the the deaths of 90 people and what progress is being made. I understand that sometimes you must mention the bogeyman to make a point..thats acceptable. What is not acceptable is to use a tiny snippet about arresting non attenders into the zillionth anti bogeyman thread. That is not the main body of this article. Its about what happened prior to the deaths occuring and what role Abhisit ministers took in the creation of the CRES.

You must be Thai posters if you use the belief that if we say something a 1000 times it will be true. Thaksin is Thaksin for good or bad but we dont know what ABhisit is and the people of Thailand have the right to an open investigation which they never got under the last government. Why must you repeat how bad the PM and her brother are when all the world and the people that matter are queueing up to meet them. Who do you think readers of this forum are really going to believe, Head of State or forum members who keep telling the world that the bogeymans coming to get them.
