fakename
Gambling and not paying back loans is the usual thing here. I dont know if the Thai women that are married to farang are different than others, but most of them gamble, lie, and dont worry about going into debt. And the worst part is, that they think they are so clever, and that no one can see that they are gambling, when they vanish into the back room of a friends house.

Ohio
Lend money to a Gambling addict ????? hmmmmmmmm! would that seem stupid ??? I think so but only if you expect it returned. Gambling excess, Alcohol abuse & Drug taking are social curses as they are addictive & to loan anything but moral support to an addict is just not good practise Not criticizing just observing from 40+ years working the strets of several countries - as a Law Officer that is - before the comments click in & I've seen it with family members as well & NO I would not help financially. Have helped with accomadation etc Bad Mistake

SteeleJoe
The OP has learned a valuable lesson that only cost 50,000TB. Good value... I suppose. Some might say it shouldn't have been needed and more a matter of common sense (which comes for free). We all have lapses in judgement, of course, but I personally wouldn't consider a $1,500 mistake a cheap one. BookMan
In summary you lent 50k baht to a Working Girl with a known gambling problem, what did you expect the result to be? The outcome would not be any different in any other country lending money to someone of the same profile. My sentiments exactly. (well apart from the Working girl bit, i must have missed that) You lent the money to a problem gambler, unlikely anyone with that profile would be in a hurry to repay you. . Suggest you do the same Wrote it off??? It little wonder lazy con artists flock to Pattaya. When victims don't even report theft. To the OP, demand your money back. If she's a gambling Prostitute, she going to have upswings - so catch her when she has some. Keep pestering her. As for loss of face - I don't think prostitute have face to start with to lose.

If for nothing else, it may help someone else getting fleeced by the same girl/maid. Could make a very comfortable living doing that, if no one ever tries to get their cash back. monkeycountry
Your best chance of getting your money back would be to lend her another 50k, but tell her that this time you will gamble together at a casino. Then play on red (or black) at the roulette. There is almost 50% chance that you will win, and then you will have your money back!
