Planning to go to Melbourne from bkk for the Non-B multiple; a few questions if anyone happens to know. Will be going to the Thai embassy in Melbourne before noon on 26th Nov, and returning to bkk on the 27th with the flight departure from Melbourne at 15:05. Assuming the visa can be issued in one day on the 26th, or before noon on the 27th, the question is how much time does it take to get to the airport via public transport or taxi. The thai embassy is on 566 ST Kilda Road.

Suggestions for a budget place to stay for 2 nights welcome...

I have sent a query to the embassy but no word yet. I also have the option of going to Brisbane if that was by any chance an easier, cheaper, alternative.

Thanks

I applied for the same type of visa in early August and was lucky to get it before my flight. The Thai consulate had a sign up saying visa processing was taking four days! The sign was temporary, so the delay might have been temporary, but I would not take the risk unless you can get hold of them first.

I put the application in on a Tuesday and was told it would be back Friday after noon. As it turned out, it was ready by noon on the Thursday.

From the Consulate to the airport, allow 45 minutes. Re hotels, I always stay with family, so am no expert, but there are some cheap ones around Spencer Street. You might also want to try St. Kilda, as it is then convenient to get to the Thai consulate.

According the the FAQ on the Melbourne Consulate web site: (http://www.thaiconsu...ne.com/faqs.php)

7Q: “How long does it take to process a visa in Melbourne?”

A: Providing everything is in order, it will take us a minimum of 1-2 business days to process the visa.

I doubt they could get it done in 24 hours, but you might be able to contact them and organise to have it done before you get there. You can download an application form from their website.

For a 3pm flight, you would want to be at the airport by 1pm. You might scrape through if you check in by 2pm.

The easiest way to get there would be by taxi ($50-$70) and you would want to give yourself an hour. Actually getting a taxi could take you half an hour.

Public transport would take a minimum of 2 hours. Get to Southern Cross (Spencer St) Station (by tram via StKilda Rd and then Bourke St) and catch the SkyBus to the airport.
