Are there any public or hotel pools available in Maha Sarakarm?

Somewhere to take the kids from time to time

If not, how about Khon Kaen?

There is a 50m pool near the gym in the Mor Mai campus, or on lum Klong som tawin road there is a catholic school which has a 25m pool + childerns swimming area

Both are available outside of school hours and are around 50 baht per non member adult (not sure on children's prices)

I think the Mor Mai campus refers to the newer MSU campus at Kamrieng. Another way to find this is park your car near the University shopping plaza (which includes TMB bank) and walk down the road on the left side until you get to the pool.

Some others:

The Mahasarakham Rajabhat University has a large pool and a children's pool near the main entrance on the Khon Kaen road.

The sports college has two pools, though last time I checked both were in poor condition and out of commission (and they are both deep and probably unsuitable for small children)..

Taksila apartments on the Kalasin road (from town turn right just past Big C) has a smallish pool that is good for kids.

A couple of kilometres further out on the Kalasin road you can turn left into the new university road (the second main road to the MSU Kamrieng campus) and you will see an apartment complex on the right which has a play area with two childrens' pools and various slides and so on.

All these allow public use for a small fee. So there are quite a few options.

Maintained conditions of suggested pools is obviously a concern, but you have also indictated your observataions of that.

A newer pool has just opened up less than a kilometer from the new Sermthai Complex. Go down the main highway toward Mahasarakham from SermThai complex, and turn left at the nearest entrance into Mahasarakham's University city campus. The new pool is less that 100 meters from the main road on the left.
