Thai Traffic Police Plan To Improve Efficiency Of Famous Dummy Cop Ja Choei

This will turn into a new scheme so that BiB don't have to buy batteries for their private houses, villas, Flatscreen TV monitors etc. anymore.

It is good to see that the police are working on making the police dummy smarter. What about the person with his finger on the red light button? cowboy.gif

It won't be kids stealing the CCTVs. There'll be a few Klong Toey back-street merchants selling used CCTVs before long.

Which Ja Choei thought up this brilliant scheme?

Bring on the police state...

You mean like in the UK where this has been going on for a long time (sans dummies). Don't lose sleep ... this system is to deal with traffic violations, not to track which bar you walk into on Soi Cowboy.

You think the extensive UK CCTV coverage is only used to deal with traffic violations? Why do you think they put the cameras in traffic free zones like city centres? (A clue ..... it's not for traffic violations).

Here lies the problem.........

"The batteries on the cameras can last for up to 24 hours," Worasak added.

After which? cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

It doesn't matter. They think the sight of a 'dummy' policeman will slow the speeders down. Thus if the cop is a dummy the camera might as well be too. If they aren't stolen in the first week then no doubt someone will vandalize them.

Quite incredible 'thinking' IMHO.

Thousands of police officers will be at the political rally on Saturday 24th Nov, where do they normally "work"?

In most countries, every student bar would have one within a few days.

From the OP photo, it's just two ordinary cameras crudely fixed to the dummy. Wonder how many hours of brainstorming resulted in that bright idea.

Yes but in the UK they are mounted out of reach unlike here where the lower one will probaqbly get peed on by the resident soi dog and the higher one will get sprayed or nicked. Not all Thais are stupid for sure but whoever came up with this bright idea needs his head examined!

The first mistake is thinking this is actually to "deal with traffic violations" when as someone earlier correctly pointed out, it is simply to make money; from the people selling and installing the 'technology' to obtaining more bribe money and backhanders.

The things I see in Thailand, is that Thailand needs to have traffic laws as well as enforce them. This will gain money for the police departments in every province. Large trucks doing 120, cutting in front of cars without proper lighting. Lighting is a big issue in Thailand, a lot of vehicles don't even have lights in Thailand , they just drive . They should be given tickets , especially motorcycles, people don't fear as they are driving here it's not a life threading situation for them. Motorcycles cutting in front vehicles with no lights or trucks with lite green and blue and purple lights on the back of them is that a truck or a moving truck stop. The only light that should be on the back of your vehicle should be (RED). The small cars are the worse along with over packed vehicles doing the max on highways 140 it's ridicules. You can just jump in a vehicle and do what ever, you may find that this precaution may also stop or solve a lot of crimes if you see someone speeding or dodging through traffic. Also in the provinces, especially schools zones, market areas, and neighborhoods, need to be limits I've seen to many almost terrifying incidents where cars, trucks or motorcycles, buses and even big machinery just driving fast as they can knowing kids out playing or coming from school and nearly killing someone Those are the facts that will slow down Thailand's accident rate not the dummy. Enforce the speed limited, and be hard on the corrective lighting, and road hogs and you should be good. .

Needed only the offer from a clever salesman in some envelopes, methinks

Dummies! Why dont the police find their best man and clone an army out of him? Get real... these dummies do not serve the purpose.... of controlling traffic or speed hooligans. Simply recruit new policemen to do the job properlz.

And in the Uk they have a privacy usage adherrance policy for any camera either wholly or partially monitoring a public space, which is enforced by the privacy comissioner and required by law to adhere to strict data distribution agreements.. at least that is the requirement here in New Zealand, where I worked with the Police and Council in the field for 7 years.

Do not expect the same from a Thai establishment of which any shirt color sees the way to having a more civil society is through restriction, rather than education and penalising those who do not follow their education (e.g. requiring. People obtaining drivers licenses to undergo driving classes from authorised trainers for a set period of hours, and actually penalising people for reckless driving).

There are a lot of Police as a ratio of BiB to people in Thailand, the problem is that they are not for the most part interested in solving, or even considerong preventing crime. And road deaths, one of the biggest killers in Thailand.

As we all know if it says on the box 'up to 24 hours' that means you will be lucky to get 12.

This is yet another ill thought out dumb idea, brought to you by various authorities in Thailand. The incredible stupidity of people at the top in every facet of society is astounding. But that is what you get when people have to buy their positions rather than earn them.

So now we all know how long those dummie joe's will be functional smile.png

By the way they could sent the data from the camera straight to the headoffice over 3G..............Oeps, I forgot Thailand doesn't have 3G yet.

Well done BiB and the government.

What an outstanding response to the problems of dangerous and irresponsible driving and road safety in general in Thailand.

It certainly beats getting out there on your feet and actually enforcing the law, don't you think?

...

Huh? I think the idea is to catch and record traffic violations when they happen... running red lights, and that sort of thing. You want a human standing at each intersection and then taking a photo or running after a car when it does this sort of thing?? This system is intended to deal with traffic violations only....

How is it going to work after the cameras are stolen?
