I thought I read in one of the threads today that children under 18 would not be allowed into the protest by the police. Now I can't find it. We sure don't want the appearence of double standards do we?

It is a new name for old things and tricks. The Yellowshirt movement seems to have a new name every year. One year they call themselves the Multicolor movement, the next Pitak Siam. The bottom line is that we deal with a Neo fascist movement that will do anything to annul the wishes of the Thai voters. At first they figured out a system of appointed senators, than they came up with the idea of making the vote of a cheap academic worth more than that of a rural farmer but in the end we are dealing with people of Chinese descendants who do not give a dam_n about Thailand but who wants to mimic a Chinese system in which the rights of the poor come last.

Kidnapping a PM or an attempt to do so, occupying transportation systems or airport might force the army into committing a great crime again and taking over power. It is no secret that the <snip> Prem is a sponsor of the movement. Prem is celebrated as a great PM but only by the elite, for the rest of the country he is just a man who was never ever elected.

If Yingluck is wise she would take away children of yellow shirts who bring them to a demonstration, they would certainly try to use children as a human shield against police action and take a page out of Suthep's playbook. a life firing zone might do.

A leader named Saloth Sar succeeded in defeating the neo-fascists in his country. In fact, he got rid of the entire elite class. Now that country is an agrarian workers paradise.

So the PM gets kidnapped before the rally thereby eliminating her from being responsible for issueing any action that may be taken against the rally organisers and participants and miraculously is back in office on monday morning. Or in other words, she's going away for the weekend and other's heads can roll.....

I must have really high expectations for Thailand, as I keep getting disappointed. Especially by these red shirt people. What dumbass would say they were going to take someone like Yingsuck hostage? It's not like she's going to be at this rally. Most heads of state are taken AWAY from areas like this at a planned event. Well, at least in countries were education is a priority.

I think this post displays a tragic lack of understanding, not only of Thai politics, but also of the underlying Thai character!

The Govt just trying to get public sympathy ahead of no-confidence debate and that otherwise irrelevant protest. Actually by it's actions, the Govt is helping to make this protest much more significant than it would otherwise be. They use these wild stories about ASSassinations, kidnappings, coup d'etat, etc to create the appearance of being victimized. This is the image that Thaksin has been promoting for himself ever since he was convicted of corruption. Now, even though his mob has almost monopolized power in the country, they are trying to create a public image of being victimized .... this is classic Robert Amsterdam. i.e. the 'victimizer' claims to be 'victimized'. If you keep saying it enough times, some people start believing it.

If you say something enough times to people that are 'not clever' (I avoided the word stupid) they ALL believe it, afterall, brainwashing in the North East is a doddle however non-credible and rediculous it is!!

I don't see any difference than a "normal" dictator. The elections are just a little more than a farce in big parts of the country. With bus loads of worker who got told what to vote for being brought to the boots, they checkmark what they are told so, get the money and will be brought back. Only having elections does not make a democracy....East Germany also had elections, North Korea has elections.....Thaksin told several times that he favors a 1 party system. A one party system is exactly what they had in East Germany (North Korea has a second party).

Peaceful - not quite with red shirts threatening CC judges, failed attempts to pass an amnesty law, failed attempts to amend the constitution. Do you actually live here?

Yellow shirts - wrong. This is a different group that has attracted, among others, PAD supporters, Multi-coloured shirt supporters, groups from the south & even disaffected farmers from Isan.

That's why the government is running around like headless chickens with all sorts of conspiracy theories & attempts (including physical ones) to try & stop the protest. They (PTP) are very close to inciting violence.
