Udon Thani International Airport

Featured Replies

Howdy all,

While Lat and I were up in Udon Thani (a 4 1/2-5 hr bus ride from Chiayaphum one way) last week we heard, during casual conversation with friends we have there, that the Udon Thani airport is to become the Udon Thani Int'l Airport starting in March sometime.

No one involved in the conversation could explain where planned Int'l flights originating from Udon Thani would conclude however.

Does any member here have any info on this?

It might be a bit like the Chiang Rai International Airport. The name says international but there are no international flights.

Maybe flights within indochina countries. To call it inter-link airport may not sound good, but with the word international this airport may look huge :o Just think of it, how many attraction sites Isan can offer to bring in international tourist and you will be able to figure it out.

All it would need is one weekly scheduled flight to either Vientiane or Phnom Penh and then they can officially claim to be an "international" airport!!

Not sure, but I believe from Chiang Rai there is at least one flight to Yangon (Burma) which therefore also makes them international as well.
