Today Australian Embassy In Bangkok Issuing A Warning To Tourist

Featured Replies

This Advice was last issued on Friday, 23 November 2012. It contains new information under Terrorism (recent incidents in the south), Civil unrest/political tension (Internal Security Act activated in three districts in Bangkok between 22-30 November) and Local travel (building safety). We continue to advise you to exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand due to the threat of terrorist attack, particularly in the provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla, where we advise you not to travel.

Sing with me:

Bye bye tourist dollars...

Moved to Bangkok subfurum branch,

Thanks for the info.

Bye bye tourist dollars...

Overreaction!

The percentage of Australians that would actually read the advice, follow it and then change their travel patterns would be less than a few %. Tourism (only 7% of the Thai economy) has survived almost everything in this country in the last decade and the dollars will keep coming and growing even though the while industry is badly managed.

Short of a zombie plague or nuclear explosion, numbers will keep growing (even with the zombie plague, people will still come) no matter what minor event takes place over the weekend.

Load of crap.

Wheres their intel from?

I arrive tomorrow. I'll make sure I wear protection.

Only 7% ? That's more than enough to put a country into a recession.

Socks with your sandals ?

I also doubt if many Australians would read the advice - but seems sensible given the protest later today.

Barely a chance that anything will happen - but if it did erupt then the travel advice makes sense.

Load of crap.

it's called cover your arse - don't issue a travel warning and an Australian is injured or killed, then Australians will start screaming about the incompetency of the Dept of Foreign Affairs

Yes, but that part of the travel advisory is not new.

The new updated advisory was issued because of the Internal Security Act being invoked by the government a few days ago.

neither the advisory nor the conflict in the area are new, whats going on in the south has effectivley been ignored both nationally and internationally for the better part of 10 years
