HalfSquat
From my limited reading experience wouldn't this road ลาซาล be pronounced or translated as Laa Saan rather than LA Salle? Can anyone explain please? Thanks.
rgs2001uk
The only thing I can think of, its the Thai spelling of a French word. Its not a Thai word, the language is littered with Thai spellings of foreign words that make no sense.
HalfSquat
Thanks. Could be French then.
Mole
It's spelled according to the French spelling, l = ล but an ล at the end of a word will be read as น (n) by Thais. There is no way for a Thai to pronounce an l at the end of a word. They'll all be pronounced as n.
Richard W
And just to labour the obvious, the road is named after La Salle School, run by the La Salle Brothers, who were founded by St Jean-Baptiste de La Salle.
