I was wondering with a double entry visa (Canadian passport) staying 150 days, should one do the border run after the first 60 days or do 60 days get a thirty day extension then do the border run?

thanks

It is up to you, you can extend each entry but don't have to. Do realize that the day you leave Thailand is also day first of your 60 days when you return to Thailand if you return the same day. So you would get 149 days with 1 extension, not 150 days.

on the Visa it just has an entry before date. hmmm I was told there was only one way to do it but can't remember which way it was...I'm confused...

For max stay you extend both entries for 30 days but during the first extension you may have to leave a bit early to enter before the expiration date on the visa (not the permitted to stay stamp) for your second entry.

you can extend either the first or second 60 days , maybe better to extend the second depending on your enter before date,

as mario has mentioned a 60 day + 60 day + 30 day isn't actually 150 days in thailand it's 149 days,

sometimes a 1 day overstay is acceptable at worst you may have to pay an extra 500 baht when you leave,

other choice is to stay out of thailand for one night when you do the border run.

what's the enter before date writen on your visa ? and when did you enter thailand ?

If visa only has a 90 day use before date you need to do the 30 day extension for the first 60 day entry and then do a border run just before the visa expires (enter before date) to use the 2nd entry to get the maximum amount of time allowed out of the visa.

If 6 months validity it would be in the same way but permit to stay date would determine when you do the border run since visa would not be expiring yet.

i think he only wants to stay 150 days ? or maybe he wants to stay long but is unaware he can extend both entries ?

depending on the validity of his visa (3 months or 6 months from issue) and when he entered thailand may mean extending the first entry is a mistake.

need to know some more information and how long he wants to stay in thailand etc.

It doesn't mater whether he is a she or she is a he, by lack of information you are both confusing the issue!

From your post, you are a Canadian withs a double entry tourist visa. Please provide the following information so that someone can give you the exact answer that you are looking for.

1. issue date of visa.

2. enter before date on visa

3. Are you currently in Thailand? If yes, what date did you arrive? If not, what date do you intend to enter Thailand?

4. What is the date that you plan on leaving Thailand?

With theabove information, someone will be able to give you a definitive answer!

All entries of a tourist visa can be extended by 30 days.

The visa expiration date does not matter other than the it is the last day an entry can be obtained from the visa. Some people are under the false impression that the expiration date is the last day that you can be in Thailand which is incorrect.

hi,

if you only want to stay 149 days no worries just extend the second entry ,

enter thailand to get 60 days entry,

on the 60th day exit thailand and re-enter to activate the following 59 days,

extend 30 days inside thailand at any immigration office for 1900 baht.

to double check send us all your information .

thanks, based on info provided you have to leave after the first 60 days and do the extension while on the second entry.

First entry on 4.12 , 60 days will go you up to 2.2, Visa Run to activate 2nd 60 day, up to 1.4, do 30 day extension, up to 1.5.

It's a bit tight , so you might stay a couple of days in another country in order to make sure that you hit the departure date, otherwise you will end up a day or two on overstay.

Thanks for the info, here's my take on your situation:

Arrive 4 December 2012, get 60 days permission to stay. Must leave by date should be 1 Feb 2013.

Do a border run on 1 Feb 2013 to activate the second 60 days permission to stay. Must leave by date should be 1 May 2013.

During the last 30 days of your permission to stay, go to any immigration office in Thailand and extend for 30 days, 1900 baht. That should give you permission to stay until 1 May, your scheduled departure date.

With this schedule you have absolutely no extra time. If you deviate in any way you will be on overstay at 500 baht/day. In hind sight, you applied for your visa too early and wasted about 2 weeks. The visa is like a bus pass and you must use all entries before the "enter by" date.

To be safe, you could extend you first permission to stay by 30 days. Which would give you permission to stay until 2 March 2013. However, you would have to do the border run on/or before 14 Febuary, the entry before date on your VISA . That would cost you an additional 1900 baht, but would give you some breathing time with your schedule with no overstay. In total, you would get permission to stay until up to 13 May and would not be locked in to having to make your border run exactly on 1 February, you could do it a couple of days before if you wanted. PM me if you have any further questions.
