i am in Penang now and was told they are not going to issue me 1 year work permit visa anymore, just 3 month visa.

I am running a business in Thailand, and i have a proper registered company and paying taxes every year.

For the past 20 years i have no problem reapplying for a 1 year visa.

I am at my wits end because with just a 3 month visa it is going to cause me a lot of inconvenience.

So i am hoping anyone can advise me where can i go to get a 1 year work permit visa? Singapore? Bangkok?

Any advises would be greatly appreciated!

How long is your actual work permit as that will also be a consideration at most locations. Believe company financials is also a consideration at others. Most people are expected to be on one year extensions of stay from immigration if company is more than a year to two old. If you can add details it might help to get more reliable information.

I have a 1 year work permit but my 1 year visa is expiring soon. My company is definitely more than 5 years

How many months remain on your work permit validity is often criteria for some Consulates - believe it is 8 or more for one year visa issue at them.

I just renewed my work permit so it has more than 11 months left on it. And for the past 10+ years i have been doing the same but i have no idea why now they do not want to issue me 1 year visa

Hope someone can respond but have you received in Penang before? Seem to recall they have required a high level of company capitalization to issue more than single entry so KL might be a better choice (they do seem to work to different rules).

yes i have always receive from Penang because it is the only place i know that still issues 1 year visa.

I have 2 million thai baht in my company capitalization so i don't think that is the issue

As I recall they wanted to see 4 million but I could have that wrong - at any rate quite sure it was more than the normal 2 million.

the 2 million baht was what the officer at the government office told me to put in. Hence i am quite sure it is not due to the amount not being enough

If you have had a company for 5 years and are paying taxes correctly then why are you not getting an extension in Thailand?

Good question! I want to know why as well. When i asked the immigration government officer they said that they are following higher up instructions on restricting the amount of 1 year visa being granted.

And because i am on good terms with the government officer, he gave me a 1 year work permit and he himself said it would be better to go Penang to get 1 year visa

Sorry but is the officer you talking about the same person? Unless you are using a One Stop service place then they must be two different officers

Terms are being confused in this thread.

A visa is issued by MFA at a Consulate outside Thailand. An extension of stay is issued by immigration inside Thailand and is the normal method of stay for those working here.

A work permit is issued by Labor Department - has nothing to do with Immigration Department or MFA. You must visit two different people/locations - one for work permit and the other for extension of stay.

sorry my mistake for the wrong term used. The government officer is from labor department and not immigration.

and i just spoke to the officer and he told me the reason why they refuse to give me 1 year visa is because my work permit is expiring soon. He said i need at least 1-2 month before the expiry date to get a 1 year visa.

Thanks for all the replies and help

Lastly does anyone know any one stop service in Hatyai that helps in applying for visa on your behalf?

so far i have found this website http://www.accounting-krabi.com/Work_permit.htm

but krabi is a bit far and i was hoping to find similar service at Hatyai which is nearer to me

Are you talking about 'no extension of stay in thailand, like beano asked?

Do you have 4 Thai employers?

Is your salary 50/65k month?

I don't think so, 'cause you obviously can't extend in Thailand.

Get yourself to KL, same paperwork, wp minimum valid for another 8 month, the 1 year multiple entry visa should be issued there.

Or check with Kota Bahru. There was a visa service from Samui available, some years ago, getting you a 3 year Non Imm B visa, there.

With and for wp reasons (Yes, i know, that this visas are strictly 'no working' visas. But only if issued in embassies, methinksgiggle.gif )

KL want 8 month, minimum! (Info for next year)

And sometimes I think, the consulate/embassy staff is a bit 'unhappy' about 15 month use of multiple non Imm visas.

That can be the reason, for getting you a hard (come back again, spend more money) time.

Also the 15 month usage gets you easily out of the 8 month windows, in case your wp is extended on yearly base

See this police order clause 2.1 and annex's A and B for requirements to obtain an extension of stay Thai Police Order 777/2551

and Immigration Bureau Order 305/2551 for documents required.

There is an immigration office in Pattani which is the office you would have to use. The one stop office is only for those with BOI privledges.

You should not need any help to get the extension other than your accountant to help put together all the documents needed for the extension.
