At approximately 1.30 in the afternoon, a local Navy Non Commissioned Officer was on duty and left the Naval Base to deposit funds at the Bank near the city Market Place. En route, the truck he was driving was chased by another, which subsequently overtook him and cut him off, forcing him to stop.

The 38 year old was dragged from the truck by two of the 4 attackers and forced into the woodland adjacent to the road, where he was beaten during a fight and finally held at gunpoint with the threat of a bullet if he tried to resist. During the attack, the other two men trashed his vehicle in search of the money they obviously knew he was carrying to the bank. Finding it in the glove compartment of the vehicle, the man was robbed of his own rings before being left as the attacker escaped with 98,000 baht in cash

Police are concerned that the men showed no fear of robbing a military man on duty and in uniform and have collected as much information as possible to track the men down.. As usual in such cases, much of the information is held back from the press while the investigation continues. Navy Staff have also reviewed the attack and are questioning the driver to make sure that he doesnt drive the same route with regularity which would allow the attackers to know his cash delivery plans in advance,

Daylight robbery and assault of Petty Officer at roadside in Sattahip

Sattahip:--A Petty Officer stationed at the Navy base in Sattahip was reportedly assaulted at gun-point and robbed of money and gold rings in a brazen daylight robbery.

The incident occurred just after 1.30pm on Monday on a road close to the Rama 6 Monument in Sattahip and led to injuries sustained to Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Manit aged 38. He claimed 98,000 Baht in cash was stolen along with two gold rings worth a combined value of 25,000 Baht.

He had just withdrawn the money from the bank to pay for a government loan which had matured and believes he was followed from the bank by four men who cut in front of his pick-up with their own vehicle. Four men, all with their faces concealed, exited the vehicle and were armed with steel bars, guns and pieces of wood.

The Petty Officer was forced from his vehicle at gunpoint and dragged onto the grass next to the carriageway. He was forced to tell the men where the money was and at the same time he was forced to hand over two gold rings he was wearing. The men left after a strike to the back of the head with the butt of the gun and blows to the face and stomach which left the Petty Officer stunned for a few seconds allowing the four assailants to make-good their escape.

Robbery may be a scam according to Police

Sattahip: Police announced in a press meeting that things may not be as they were first reported. They may have been initially duped by a Navy NCO this week.

Police had received a report that he had been driving his pickup truck, with a considerable amount of money in the glove box, on a main highway when 4 men, who obviously knew he had money with him, were supposed to have forced his truck off the road and attacked him on the roadside.

During the attack he had claimed to have been beaten and held at gunpoint while the villains searched his car and stole the money. He had reported the attack to police and shown them major bruising which, he claimed, was the result of his attack.

Working on the information provided by the Navy NCO who claimed that he had been robbed in a roadside attack, of 98000 baht, Police put every effort into trying to catch the criminals quickly but, according to sources, what they found was more and more evidence which points toward the “victim”.

Reviewing statements made over the past few days, Police officers have already found glaring differences in major details given by the man regarding the crime. As reported, he was “overly” willing to assist in the enquiry but when the crime scene was investigated, there was no evidence of any fight or attack.

Officers have voiced their suspicions openly that the alleged crime scene is adjacent to a main and busy road and that they remain unconvinced that the attack could have occurred there without members of the public seeing it happen.

You've only got to take one look at him, and the story, to realise this whole alleged attack is a crock of rubbish. Jesus, he even looks guilty (and dumb)!

How's about this, there weren't four masked men, there was no other vehicle, there wasn't 98000k in cash, there was no attack or fight.

Also there's not a mark on him, his clothes weren't even ruffled in the original reports, no sign of a struggle at the alleged incident site, his account of events has also changed drastically in the last few hours.

In another report, police made him stand in front of a shrine and swear to buddha that he was telling the truth.......<deleted> sort of police investigating is this??

I wonder what sort of insurance cover this guy might have had which would have covered such an incident?? This has all the signs of a very poor attempt at defrauding!! Personally I think he's a complete idiot, and I'm sure the above will come out in the wash.
