Working On (Adding To) A Screenshot

Hi there

I have a screenshot of a layout.

I would like to add some lines and maybe words to it.

Is this possible?

Screen shot pictures are usually saved with a .jpg extension.

If you are using Windows 7, click the START button, and in the "Search programs and files" box at the bottom, type in: paint

Open the program: Paint

Open your screenshot in that program by either dragging and dropping it into Paint, or in Paint, clicking on the top left down triangle and choosing Open

At the top center, you will see a bunch of shapes. Click the diagonal straight line. Left Click (and hold) in your image where you want to start the line, and drag to where you want to finish the line, and release the mouse button. Your line will appear. You can change the color of your line by choosing a color on the upper right.

At the top left of center you will see a bold A. Click on that. Then click in your screenshot where you want to write something. A box will appear within which you can type. When you finish typing, click somewhere on the screenshot outside that input box. The text will be appear on the screenshot. You can change the font size and color using the tools at the top.

At the top left, click the little down pointing triangle, and choose Save As, and save your edited screenshot.

This is the simplest way for beginners. One might use more sophisticated image editing programs like Gimp (which is a free photoshop alternative), but for quick changes this works fine.

In case you are on WinXP or Vista, you will have to find the Paint program yourself (it is there somewhere).

Well, yes....who would have thought that there are "some" people in the Apple Forum that use a Mac.....

To the OP:

Why don't you just use Preview to add the few lines and words to it?

Just double click the JPG file Screenshot and Select TOOLS, then ANNOTATE and you can add several elements to the File.

Works for any document that you open with Preview

Another vote for this. Free from the Mac App Store and I replaced Jing with it and found Skitch to be much better.
