Work Permit With Regard To Hours Worked.

Featured Replies

Had a good search but not found anything and as far as I can see there is nothing pinned.

Is there a minimum number of hours that I would have to work in order to obtain one? Let us just say I work 2 hours a week and get paid 50k (Baht) in a month for doing so, would that be acceptable?

Kin hell I wouldnt mind a job paying around AU$1500 for around 10 hrs work a month !

sorry can't help with your question !

For volunteering and studying the minimum hours required by immigration seem to be 4 hours a week, so that might be the same for working.

But can't say anything regarding to the minimum requirements regarding hours for a work permit. But as volunteering requires a work permit, 4 hours should do it.

The 50K baht salary is for extensions of stay from immigration and is not required for work permits.

I seem to recall a number of around 20 hours a week to get a work permit.

If you're paying taxes on the minimum, who's going to know how many hours you really worked?

Perhaps 2 hours of traditional work and another 38 hours of "internet research" for your employer would suffice?

Still, not sure whether paying taxes on the 50K would be a cost effective solution to whatever your plan is...

So this is some kine of unwritten rule I guess?

If I'm going to work then I may as well just as well do it for 50k so I don't have to keep leaving the Kingdom every three months. Does this make sense or is it even correct?

2 very good questions which I will have to reflect on longer.

How much tax (income tax?) would that be?

Here a link to the Thai Inland Revenue Site - work it out based on your personal circumstances. http://www.rd.go.th/...ish/6045.0.html

Tax on 50k is normally around 3,500 THB pcm for a single person.

Appreciate the link.

Roughly 7% so 210k (ish) over 5 years. Assuming costs remain the same, what would be the associated costs of visas and work permits be in the same 5 year timeframe?

Can't tell your ethnicity by your dancing chicken, but keep in mind it's 80K baht for some of us- being from the US of A.

Ethnicity? British, London to be specific, 80k pm to avoid having to leave the country every 3 months?

All this is very informative but don't want to go off topic with regard to a work permit and the hours required in order to get/ sustain one for 5 years.

Perhaps I should add information I should have added earlier so thanks for the prompt. British, 45 and single. Thanks, I should have stated this in the OP.

My bad and my apologies. I guess I need to have a word with my employer...

I shall know, I'm a guest in this country and do my utmost to behave in such a way. If I need to work 4 hours as Mario suggests (via a very good argument I might add) then I will do exactly that.

Whether you can get an extension will depend upon the company you are working for. If it is a new company you might have to wait until it has tax records for 2 years plus other requirements that immigration sets above what is required to get a work permit.

Thank you for your answer. In what way does it depend? Job type I assume.

If it is a new company you might have to wait until it has tax records for 2 years plus other requirements that immigration sets above what is required to get a work permit.

Company records will be over 2 years. What other requirements? Health check ect?

See 2.1 and annex B of Thai Police Order 777/2551.

Waiting for answer.

Just click the pretty blue link to the PDF file and read what is required.

A medical is not required for extension but for the work permit it is.

Yep, waiting for an answer on 'b'. Why do you mention medical?

You mentioned health check in a post.

Annex B is about the last page of police order.

Sorry, you are quite correct that I did mention health but it was just in passing as an example of what may be required. Health check is not going to be an issue other than I have to have a piece of paper to prove it. Annex B I'm waiting on an answer from a certain person who is online.

One year but I can do two or five if needs be. I would prefer to work for a young company. Just investigating options if it was only one year of reports, that's all.

Not getting much luck on this. I could rephrase the question but have no idea which part of the forum to place it.

20 hours or what seems like an unwritten rule of 4 hours.
