Two Russian Females arrested after South Pattaya convenience store “incident”

PATTAYA:--Two Russian females were facing serious assault charges on Wednesday Night after an incident at a 7-Eleven Convenience Store located at the top-end of Soi Diamond in South Pattaya.

Police were called to the store just before 11pm and detained Miss Irina Lyubaykina aged 35 and Miss Elena Klepechina aged 27. They were accused of smashing a coke bottle over the head of one of the shop assistants, Khun Sayumporn aged 28. She sustained a head injury and was taken straight to hospital

The two Russians were taken to Pattaya Police Station where they refused to speak about the incident.

Reports from the hospitalized shop assistant suggested the pair purchased items to the value of 219 Baht. Khun Sayumporn claims she was given 220 Baht and gave back 1 Baht in change. The two Russians claimed they handed over a 1,000 Baht note and demanded the 781 Baht in change be handed over immediately.

7/11 do the small bottles for 10 baht in glass but be surprised if they bought those as the bigger plastic ones are only a few baht more .

Easy enough to run a till check. Happened to me in a pub in UK. "I gave you a twenty", "no it was a tenner". So they ran a till check. Change back for a twenty. Thanks.

Yes you are right, it wouldnt be difficult to run a check. If they do regular till lifts and dont have much a float it would take merely minutes to check if it came down to it.

I've never bee cheated in an 7-11 and I use them most days and often give 1000 baht notes. On a separate issue, I got a taxi a few month back and gave a 100 baht note for an 80 baht fare. I told him to keep the change and left the taxi. Then as I was walking away he got out of the taxi and shouted after me. He said I'd given him 500 baht not 100, so he gave me 400 baht change. He could easily have driven off, but he didn't. I'm not sure why so many on here get ripped off regularly while others never do. Either the places they hang out, or something about the people. Judging from the attitudes on many farangs on TV (not you TP) I'm not surprised that they get ripped off. I'd probably want to rip them off as well, for being so disrespectful.

Yes, it sometimes seems there are two Thailands, the one I live in and the one that seems to leave certain individuals in a perpetual state of rage.

I've never been short-changed by anyone, although on several occasions I've been given too much change. I think some farangs have personal issues that cause them a great deal of worry and they manage to direct their frustrations onto those around them.

I cannot understand why people who are so unhappy about their lives in Thailand do not just go back to wherever they found life to be so great.

Most of the cameras installed in Thai shops are the cheapest junk you can find !

Many times you can not see anything on the photos afterwards !

They are most 420 TVL with a Cmos chip !

They have to be min. 540 TVL and have a CCD chip instead, then they can be used for something !

I had just collected over 60,000 baht and then remembered I need to buy some fruit at the open market. As I got the money out my wallet, I put it on the fruit display, picked up my purchases and went home. When I got home, I discovered my wallet was missing. The most likely place is I dropped it in the market. As I retraced my steps in the market, the lovely stall holder waved and shouted at me. She hoiked a very large handbag onto the counter and produced my wallet, together with a telling off for being so careless. I was so grateful, I offered her 500 baht, which she strongly refused. I have ever since bought all my fruit at that stall in gratitude and the lady has now become a friend. As previously said, some seem to live in an entirely different Thailand than we do.

Not All 7-11 Employees are Honest...I have been had several times in 7-11....You gave me a 100 note instead of a 500...Just last week an employee wanted to charge me 100 Baht for a loaf of bread which clearly stated 49 baht on the outside.....Hi season so Expect Scams in many places of business..It is not only the Jet Ski operators or Taxi's..

Smashing implies glass rather than plastic. Shop assistants make mistakes, not necessarily with intent to steal. Easy to confuse different denomination notes if you're not paying attention and / or familiar with the currency. Maybe both took part in the aledged assualt. Another "foreigners are innocent victims of Thai police story" - maybe not.

Requesting that the manager be called and cashing up the till would have provided the answer. Maybe the cameras caught this too.

Lots of "maybes" - beause unless you were there you don't know.

Whatever, there is no excuse for an assault.

I having had that scam happen to me at MRT payment, Family Mart and also Tesco Lotus. Looking at the Russians and the way they are dressed, I don't think this is some drug Russian hooker conning staff...

Its the oldest trick in cash/counter scams. Just because it didn't happen to some doesn't mean that it doesn't happen to anyone in Thailand at all.

100 and 1000 baht notes can easily be confused, especially by first time tourists and people with poor eyesight. They're just different shades of brown and nearly the same size.

My guess is that the Russians thought they were handing over a 1000 baht note.

I don't think it is a matter of living in a different Thailand. I think it's more a case of you being very lucky to "lose" your wallet at the right place. A similar thing happened to me at a large department store in the Philippines. I was also lucky.

Don't count on this luck - better to be careful where you put your wallet.

I would like to see ALL the FACTS before passing an informed Comment, although some posters seem to have an incredulous insight , I don't know why people like me bother to Train as Investigators when all this 'sixth sense' insight is available.

A Russia woman tried to communicate with a Thai woman - that's what happened. Most Russians cannot speak Thai or English, and most 7Eleven staff cannot speak English or Russian.

That's a difficult situation. I'm surprised as a trained investigator you didn't consider this. Perhaps it is time to go back to school.

I once saw a 7/11 a shop assistant, who was given a thousand Baht note by a customer, demonstratively holding up the banknote above her head towards a CCTV camera.
