HM the King, HRH Princess Sirindhorn celebrate Loy Krathong

BANGKOK, Nov 29 - His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, on Wednesday celebrated the Loy Krathong festival at Siriraj Hospital pier and floated their krathongs on the Chao Phraya River, adding their light to the lights already illuminating Thailand's River of Kings.

His Majesty the King left Siriraj Hospital’s Chalermprakiat Building at 6.30pm where he has been receiving nourishment to regain his strength since September 2009 when he was admitted with fever, fatigue and a lung inflammation.

The 84-year-old King, the world's longest-reigning monarch, has appeared before the public with a happy face, sitting on a wheelchair and passing a large assemblage of overwhelmed well-wishers and loyal subjects lining the way at Siriraj to catch a glimpse of him. They raised his portraits and chanted “Long Live the King.”

Before proceeding to the pier, HM the King laid a jasmine garland at the King Rama V statue.

The monarch, then lit the candle in a krathong made of bread which was prepared by the Women’s College in the Court.

Princess Sirindhorn also lit candles in her krathong and in Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's krathong.

After that palace officials on a boat carried the krathongs to set afloat in the middle of the river.

After floating his krathong, the monarch viewed a procession of illuminated boats along the Chao Phya River, celebrating the festival organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) before returning to the Chalermprakiat Building.

Loy Kratong, Thailand’s traditional 'festival of light,' is celebrated on the night of the full moon of the twelfth lunar month which usually falls in November. (MCOT online news)

Yes, true - I would like to see him out and about more often and with the wonderful lady Princess Srinfthorn (Prahthep).

With more outings, he might be able to abandon the wheelchair.

My Mother is 87 keeps house and does errands for my Sister, drives my nephiew to school...

Long Live THE KING
