BANGKOK: -- Pitak Siam leader Gen Boonlert Kaewprasit on Friday filed complaints with the Ombudsmen Office and the National Anti-Corruption Commission against the government and police chief.

The general alleged that they had unconstitutionally blocking his group's rally. In this complaint, Boonlert said that the government unconstitutionally enforced the International Security Act in the heart of Bangkok to prevent people from joining his rally on November 24.

Boonlert submitted his complaint to Ombudsman Sriracha Charoenphanit, urging him to pass on the complaint to the Constitution Court to rule on whether the government had breached the Constitution.

Boonlert said the Constitution guaranteed the people's rights to demonstrate peacefully.

Boonlert said the ISA was also used to allow police to fire teargases as demonstrators and harming them.

"Before holding the rally, the Pitak Siam sent a letter to the prime minister, the Interior Ministry, and the police commissioner-general, seeking permission to demonstrate at the Royal Plaza. Initially, the government was not opposed to the rally but it enforced the ISA on November 22," Boonlert said.

Surely they mean Pitak Siam ex leader since he made a huge fuss of stepping down after the protest.

...the hell???

If you announce 1 Mio people attending a rally, where one of the organizers openly speculates about a coup, another group is the one that blocked 3 airports, when they last came out to rally ...you are surprised, that the ISA is enforced???

You were serving this opportunity to the government on a SILVER PLATE!

Nonsense. Their previous rally was peaceful.

This fascist is still around? So he is a liar as well as a fool. Now, while I am no fan of PT and see their heavy handed response to the demo last week as hypocrisy of the first degree considering their past actions (or at least the actions of their allies), what did this idiot think they would do. His stated aim was to overthrow them and institute a military type junta for five years (yeah right, just the five is it). No way PT are going to let the gravy train be derailed and so they acted. Right or wrong what did this pillock think they would do? The stupidity of some people constantly amazes me.

And?

What part of "1 Mio people attending" , "openly speculates about a coup" didn;t you understand?

I'm beginning to wonder why they bother to have outdoor political rallies in Thailand.

It would be much simpler to just go mob handed and block up the courts instead.

I am inclined to wonder if the "good General" has ever had any real military training or read any books on military strategy.

As an ex soldier, and as leader of the Pitak Siam Group, he was combating Peua Thai, why would he reveal all his plans and aims.

Surely, an initial call for a peaceful rally with the aim of letting the government know they, Pitak Siam, were displeased with its performance would have been more effective than screaming for a coup and military dictatorial rule for 5 years plus and making totally outlandish statements regarding one million attendees?

That must have deterred the majority of level headed people likely to have attended.

It would be in everyone's best interest if the man was to carry on with his golf and occasional meetings over cigars and cognac with his old pals at the Army Club and let the government self destruct over the next few years.

The Thai people have spoken at the ballot box, they want Yingluck and her band of brothers in scams. Leave well alone.

Military intelligence with a dose if pooyai....

Was destined to fail from the beginning.

Openly speculates about a coup....

I think it might rain this weekend. Is that a cue for arrest? Beating?

I remember only too well <deleted> dressed in red calling for a million people to bring a million bottles of petrol to burn Bangkok. What would you do with those? knight them?

1. I thought that Gen Boonlert Kaewprasit had sacked it and retired to wherever old soldiers go to in Thailand to fade away.

2. Pink shirts eh - another colour to strike from the wardrobe.

One cannot call for a coup, and then complain when the ISA is invoked for one's follow-up rally, police over-reaction on-the-day notwithstanding. wink.png

Happily the panicky phone-calls to serving officers went unheeded/unanswered, this wasn't like 2006, and the retired-generals achieved their objective of generating publicity about government corruption/incompetence, without starting the civil-war which their Red-Shirt nutty-counterparts also sometimes seem to crave. coffee1.gif

let me be very, very polite, slow and careful on this one...

a) General Boonlert was openly talking about a coup and freezing Thailands democratic process for 5 or so years...wasn't he?

It was all over the news, that he didn't call for a coup directly, but was implying it would be a favorable possibility, no?!

b ) what has the rest of your answer to do with anything in the OP? "Beatings" and "arrests" have not even been mentioned, but once you ask: I think you should not be beaten and arrested because it might rain...but if you like to, I would make an exception!

c) The OP is about a rally in the later days of November 2012 and the circumstances that lead to invoking the ISA and how a certain group will file a complaint about it! Now my response was, that I don't think this is very realistic. Your response is, hinting (again) to a totally different, not even remotely connected case of a rally in 2010! How often and long do you want to play that game? "PSY played in concert in Muangthongthani this week..." ..."...but when the reds burned down Central World...where was PSY at that time???" It is just ridiculous!

d) I would be so happy, if you could point out, where I said, I would "knight" the Reds for whatever happened in 2010! I make it easier for you (cause that's what you obviously need): where did I even say I liked it? Or that I am for them? On their side? That I don't want them brought to justice?

There you go again.......your only response to any criticism of your heroes is to bleat "but the reds did this...."

Nobody at PT's official rally was arrested or beaten, the usual trick of making false insinuations which, if repeated often enough by enough of your pals, go down as the truth!
