Foreigner threatened with gun and assaulted on Pattaya Beach

PATTAYA:--A foreigner was threatened with a gun on Pattaya Beach early on Sunday Morning after he was spotted by the Thai gun owner with his former girlfriend.

The incident occurred on Pattaya Beach in front of Soi Pattayaland 13/1 and led to the arrest of Khun Somsak aged 26 who was caught with a 9mm handgun. The gun was not loaded and Khun Somsak was not carrying any ammunition. Khun Somsak’s brother known only as “Op”, who was also involved in an assault on the foreign man, was able to escape before Police arrived.

Although the unnamed foreigner decided not report the case at Pattaya Police Station, officers arrested Khun Somsak and seized the unregistered firearm.

Khun Somsak revealed how he was on Pattaya Beach with a group of friends and came down to see the second night of the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival and drink with his friends. He spotted his former girlfriend, who he claims, works as a prostitute on Pattaya Beach, and was not happy with the way the foreign man was apparently groping her. Khun Somsak and his brother approached and hit the foreign man before Khun Somsak produced the firearm and held it to the foreigners head.

'Refused to press charges'??????

What is he hiding would be my first question

Ahhh Pattaya !!! Fireworks of every description available here

Perhaps he would rather his picture was not splashed all over the internet above a caption detailing how he was out with a prostitute in Pattaya.

Happenings like this not seem to affect the number of tourists. Talked to a friend who wanted to come and there was not a flight available in second part of December ! Talking about amazing ...............

Scorpio don't forget that not everyone is going to Pattaya, some are also travelling on to other parts of Asia, Australia etc.

Simple, the foreigner knows all too well, that he will spend all night at the police station filing reports and wait and wait. Eventually the gunman will pay someone 500 baht and go home. Now the foreigner will also have to worry about potential revenge from the gunman.

Alternatively the foreigner will forget the incident, have fun with his friends, won't have to worry about revenge and the gunman will go home.

The difference between the west and Thailand is that the thai police generally do not press charges on their own. If someone was caught threatening someone with a gun in the west, the police/state would be the ones pressing charges, not the victim. The victim would not have a say in the matter, his only role would be as a witness for the state.

This is of course also why thais are not worried about committing crimes against foreigners. They know the foreigners most likely won't press charges, so even if they are caught, nothing will happen.

And no, it is not the responsibility of the foreigners to start pressing charges, it is solely the responsibility of the thai government to press charges when any crime is committed, regardless of whether the victim agrees or not.

Too Many Guns unfortunately , but fortunately he was unable to afford the amo .

I think the Farang was rather wise not to press charges , Its really hardly worth it and he may not have been " Just " a Tourist .

Watch those " Beach Girls " Mr Farang . I think you'd be better in the Bars , although the same could still happen ..And maybe next time " Grope " in private . But really its a terrifying thing to have a 9mm Pistol pushed into your head .

A very sad state of affairs must have shit a brick when having a gun put to his head time to hit the road jack before they come back looking for you a Thai who loses face is a very very angry person !!!!!!

I reckon this is good advice ..Head off for a while , Plenty of other girls , let it blow over .

Absolutely unacceptable - will we see any follow up in the press - I doubt it. Will the Thai guy get charged by the police - I doubt it. If is is charged and brought to court will the judges send him to jail - I doubt it. Does Thailand have any feasible justice system?

Only read the article and then the first handful of typically banal responses, so it may have come out further down the thread, but if the ex boyfriends ID is revealed and published, so should that of the "foreign man", ... the shit-for-brains farang assaulting the girl. Non-consensual groping, by the way, is sexual assault. And that is for the girl to say or not, given the chance. However, in fairness to the ex boyfriend, the groper's ID should be published with mug shot for all 'back home' to see. ... with a demerit on his visa, for future reference.

Go back and read it pal, the ex -boyfriend is the one saying that girl was ,in his eyes ,"apparantely being groped " More likely he couldn't stand the way she was playing up to Jonny Falang , possibly for his benefit , and couldn't deal with the los of face in front of his mates .

There is just so much to this story that makes you bang your head against the wall. You have an ex-girlfriend that is now a prosititute, you don't like to see her being groped, (Why would anyone fondle a girl that they have paid for sex?. Is that not the idea?) Was he looking for his bar fine? Is he still "in love" with her? Unbelievable. Yes, he should have pressed charges, but would he just be wasting his time? Probably. Move on to the next hooker....
