In my last life in Thailand thread i tried to talk about why i think this is a horrible place to live.

but i have been around to see and hear all the horror holiday stories, that i don't really think this is an amazing place to holiday .

is the hope that one may get injured sitting on the back of a motorbike taxi in Bangkok which entices the masses to come.

is it the hope that one may die of a drug overdose in a soi cowboy short time room

is it the hope that one may kill themselves or maybe an innocent swimmer while riding a jet ski in the waters off Pattaya beach

perhaps you worked and saved all your life and you want to come here and blow it on broken promises and illusions of grandeur/love

or if they don't crash the jet ski or even get a mark on it they hope to be caught up in a jet ski scam ust because office life is too boring at home.. hey if you don't pay there is a good chance you will be stabbed!

perhaps you want to fall in love, only to get your heart broken and protest by jumping off your condominium in Jomtien

is it the hope that you will get robbed, molested and murdered while relaxing in a sleepy resort town on some island or somewhere a few hundred kilometers south of Bangkok

or maybe you long to spend some time holidaying in Bangkwang or Nongpalai i hear its free and the gruel they offer is first rate! one of my favorite games to play in there is "the search for the meat in the chicken soup"!

or maybe you are just a genuine over 50's retiree looking for an honest relationship with an 18yr old girl/boy.. im sure they wont lie to you...

perhaps you were like me and just didn't care what would happen to you, until it does, your lucky escape then...

almost every time i have been in the Australian embassy there has been at least one person who, oh my god:

lost their passport while drunk and need to get home quick and is in huge distress

or

comes in a wheelchair with broken legs

(yes its true her Australian boyfriend was pushing here in one, she had steel in her femur had broken her leg while riding on the back of a motorbike drunk, somehow in the same evening that the accident happened they had both also lost their passports...typical aussies.)

or

has lost every single piece of paper with their name on it (whilst drunk of course) and cannot prove they are Australian but for their bad sounding Queenslanderish accent...

overall Thailand isn't the most dangerous place to visit,

try Colombia where a close friend of mine was held up by guys with machine guns and robbed while in taxi in a suburban Bogota

try India where rampaging elephants, tigers and Hindu-mobs frequent your random town or city for no apparent reason

try Iran, where another friend of mine accidentally walked over the border while hiking in the mountains of Azerbaijan he was arrested by military, but luckily they believed he was not a spy, because he is Russian, and Russians are the ones who help them with their reactors

try any African, Latin or Hispanic country or any random middle east country, Papua or Solomon island, im sure you will find something more dangerous than Thailand...

so what is it about Thailand then

its the easy customs on arrival, the easy taxi driver who takes you to the bus station, the cheap bus and ferry ticket to Samui and the easy lifestlye down there, relax on the beach, go for a little walk at night, get ragingly drunk with a bunch of crazy tourists, and don't worry it'll be just like you are falling asleep.. but you will never wake up... at least it didn't hurt did it?

yeh its the false sense of security that lulls people in acting stupid or risk taking and all the other shit that tourists do. not to mention there are millions of hungry Thais out there, and a percentage of them will do some drastic things to fulfill that hunger, whether it would be sexual, narcotic or just pure greed.

add to that a million or so even more desperate illegal immigrants from Burma and Cambodia, corrupt officials, hygienically prepared food, lady boys on beach road, scamming business owners, beautiful women in the street of bankok, down and out foreigners that just need a small loan to get them through, super safe tour operators, well maintained jet skis and their friendly and understanding operators...

if anyone knew the real stats on the dangers of Thailand, feed me.
