Chonburi/jomtien Retirement Extension December 2012

I went in yesterday for the annual extension. Nothing new in terms of requirements:

(1)Application,(2) photo,(3) copies of passport main page, visa, arrival card, current extension stamp,(4) letters from embassy and/or bank manager, (5) copies of pages from bank book. To save time you should go through and sign all the photocopies, including all the bank book pages and also write your phone number beaneath your signature on the back of the application. Remember if you print out the application, it should be printed on both sides of a single sheet of paper, not on two separate sheets.

I always take along current original verifications from Social Security and my pension provider as back up for the embassy statement concerning income. They normally give those back to me, but this time they kept them attached to the embassy letter.

Last year the passport was returned with the new extension added more or less immediately. This time everyone was told to come back after three in the afternoon. The office was really packed with people both in the morning and in the afternoon when I was there, so the delay in returning the passport might be because of the high volume of applications being processed.

However, it should be noted that a check of some sort apparently is done before returning the passport, because one man waiting with me had his application and application fee returned. He was told he was on the "black list" (their words) because of an open police case that hadn't been cleared. He somewhat half-heartedly claimed it had been cleared, but was told to have his lawyer get documentation because it still showed up as uncleared on the computer. The old extension for the farang involved expired in less than one week, so he hadn't allowed much time to get things sorted out. Serves as a reminder that it's a good idea to apply early in case unexpected (or expected) problems arise.
