It's quite a large pool of about a cubic metre when filled fully. The filter has no chance to keep the water clear, but the fish doesn't seem to mind. Usually it's turning dark and there's lots of algea, but after the last exchange of water and scrubbing the tiles it turned murky again, but milky white. What is the cause, and what can I do about it?

You need to add some plants, they will use up the Ammonia,Nitrites,Nitrates,

your fish produce, that causes the algae, also add a sucker fish, and dont

over feed the fish,

The plants can be marginals, plants in pots that grow out of the water,or

you can use submerged plants, either way if you have Koi or Goldfish

you better ad a layer of gravel, stones around the base of the plants

or the fish will root around and muddy the water.

hope that helps regards Worgeordie

Thanks. It helped already. Cleaned the pool ten days ago and replaced the old plants with vigorous new ones, and the water remains transparent so far. Girlfriend also thought of putting pebbles in the plant pots, we didn't do this before.
