Trevor25222
A lot of people must have been thrown by this, even though Thai immigration grants a free extra day on departure, if required, before imposing a daily ฿500 fine. I just did a run to Prom in Cambodia (near Pailin) with a commercial service out of Pattaya. Clients don't even need to physically cross the border as Khmer employees on motorcycles run passports the 200 metres to Cambodian immigration. It took 4 hours each way in a minibus plus 50 minutes at the border. One strange thing though: Thai immigration, on re-entry, demands a photocopy of your passport with one of the two photos you submitted to the visa company. Why is this? ubonjoe
It works out to 14 days because day one is the day you enter. The one day free overstay is only at some airports and at no border crossing. If more than one day it will be 500 baht per day for all days in overstay. Copy of passport and photo must be something new or only at that border crossing. Never heard of it before. Could be they want them as record keeping to help them watch for those that constantly do border crossings.
el jefe
The day you enter and the day you leave both count. Why wouldn't they?? it works the same for a 60 day visa (59 nights) and a 90 day visa. If your 15 day visa was good for 15 nights, you would get 16 days. Don't have an answer re the photo. Trevor25222
Isn't this common knowledge? 15 days equals 14 nights Since the immigration stamp date is changed at midnight, and travellers move about during the daytime, it would be clearer to state the total permitted stay in nights, not days. The Thai so-called 30-day entry permit at airports equates to only 29 nights. Some countries, like Madagascar and Singapore, quote "1 month" instead ... again ambiguous but normally one calendar month, the latest date of departure being the same number as the date-of-entry. This would equate to 27, 28, 30 or 31 nights, depending on the month and whether it is a leap year. It is a pity the Thais couldn't follow this sensible, clear and simple protocol. Dancealot
Yes Trevor but then we would not be confused now, would, we. Besides immigration would seem more like a hotel when you can choose nights....

Trevor25222
Defining permitted days to remain in the kingdom ... There's the right way. There's the wrong way. And there's the Thai way (which is what we've got).
