Also the more munks at the party the more merit gained. Thats the reason for these large parties. Some or maybe all of the expenses often comes back via donations from the guests. There is no need to serve alcohol. There can be a stand where people can buy whisky and beer. This will also add a little income. Is it right to believe then that poorer people gain less merit, and stand a lesser chance to advance in life? Even in Buddhism? Again, pay yourself into heaven principle? Thais believe that rich people gained more merit in earlier lifes and thats why they now are rich. Ok. So after one becomes rich, it is pretty easy to be rich for the next lives as well.
