Is AI lulling us into a false sense of security?
I think it's more a case of making people think they can do things that they cannot, and probably failing to value things that they believe can be replaced by AI. One of the biggest dangers is that people suddenly feel that doing something like writing a book or painting a picture is meaningless, since AI can do it in 5 minutes. The phrase "AI generated slop" has luckily been coined, which I think will be really important in the coming years. -

I chose to sell and invest, totally get it!. Christmas was a disaster: dealing with a boiler issue while the tenants were away, replacing a fridge that "wasn’t good enough," and then the new one being “too small” even though the contract clearly states only two people living there. I’m leaning towards selling too. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely area, classic British charm, but it's changed completely due to migration. Letting agents just make things worse. Instead of managing tenants myself, I’m paying over 18% and still having to guide them through basic tasks. Honestly, the government should be regulating letting agents, not punishing landlords. -

Weather Third Weather System Looms as Philippines Faces Triple Threat

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), this third system was spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday morning, positioned 2,850 kilometres east of Eastern Visayas. Pagasa has indicated that there's a medium probability of this new LPA developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. This emerging threat adds to the weather challenges the country is already facing. Existing LPAs Inside PAR Intensify Within the PAR, two other LPAs are being closely monitored. The LPA located east of Central Luzon presents a high likelihood of transforming into a tropical depression soon. It was last reported to be 1,140 kilometres away, making it a significant concern for the region. The second LPA, situated 225 kilometres east-southeast of Basco, Batanes, also carries a medium chance of intensification. This system, coupled with the prevailing southwest monsoon, known locally as the "habagat", is already causing disruptive weather. Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for areas including Metro Manila, Bataan, and parts of Cavite. The red alert, signalling more than 30 millimetres of rain expected within the next three hours, cautions residents of possible flooding and advises them to stay informed. Weather Preparedness and Impact With these systems posing varying degrees of threat, authorities are urging preparedness across the affected regions. The intensifying weather could lead to disruptions in daily life, including transport delays and potential evacuation measures. Such weather systems often exacerbate challenges in infrastructure and public safety. Local governments are working to ensure that communities are ready to face these disturbances with minimal impact. Early warnings and timely updates are critical in managing the situation effectively. Community and Government Response Community engagement is vital during potential weather emergencies. Local authorities emphasise the need for residents to follow updates from Pagasa, participate in community preparedness activities, and adhere to safety advisories. The national government, alongside local agencies, is on high alert, coordinating efforts to mitigate risks associated with such weather developments. Resources are being mobilised to ensure swift response and recovery operations if needed. As the Philippines navigates these atmospheric disturbances, the resilience of its communities, coupled with strategic planning, will be crucial in weathering the storm. It's deep-fried. The arteries take a beating on anything that is deep fried. Also, the cooking oils are going to be unhealthy. Sorry to be the grim reaper, but .... I would treat it as a cheat meal. If you're middle-aged you probably shouldn't be eating at McDonald's 3 times a week if you want to stay healthy.
