advancebooking Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I arrived in the LOS last december and my travel insurance policy from oz runs out in a week. I called them to extend and they are quoting a huge amount to extend past the normal 12 month period. Its basically double the amount based on the number or days that I want to extend to march next yr. I dont know if I should bother to pay twice the price to this greedy insurance company. I have ample cash in my bank account should something go wrong. any opinions are much appreciated
CodyB Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 It's so dam_n important. I work in the travel insurance industry. I'm bombarded with stories from South East Asia everyday. Some poor bastard lost his arm in a Phuket motorbike accident. It wasn't his fault, yet they were trying to sue him! He was medically evacuated to a Bangkok hospital which is affiliated with our company and we paid his medical bills and his flights home. $27,000. Unless you're over 70, your premium won't be more than $10 a day, surely? If not, maybe you're best to fly home and return again. A comprehensive travel insurance with the right company will protect you healthwise and keep you away from some of the undesirable characters that pop up in a very corrupt country. You'll be treated at hospitals for the wealthy. Which company are you with?
WilliaminBKK Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I'd shop around and see if there are better options available, I wouldn't personally be without insurance. I use http://www.worldnomads.com/ for my leisure travel.
