Just a heads up to the winos on this forum...

I bought a case (12 bottles for Baht 1000) of Maesai strawberry wine from a roadside vendor 2 weeks ago about 10 km before reaching Mae Sai. Also bought 12 bottles of non-alcoholic strawberry juice for Baht 350. Both taste great to my unsophisticated palatte, although I've found that both taste better chilled. I didn't buy any other flavours of wine or fruit juice as I love strawberry. Lest I forget, the vendors all had strawberries for sale as well...

The vendor said that she'll be open until around Songkran. Give it a try if you find yourself in the area. Plenty of vendors, you'll easily see them as you approach Mae SaI. The wine is extremely sweet and strong (10% alcohol), only a glass or 2 at a time for this lightweight. The wine keeps well, 7 days after opening a bottle and keeping it in the fridge, it still tasted fine to me.

Samoeng may also have strawberry wine, I haven't been there recently so I can't comment.

Cheers & Happy Holidays!

Bought some myself a few years ago coming back from Pai, and you're right, a very tasty drink indeed. Anyone know of a vendor nearer to CM?

I tried the Wararot market (kat luang) before heading to Mae Sai and the wine isn't available there, just strawberries. That was about 3 weeks ago, so it could be available now. Samoeng might have some strawberry wine, otherwise Mae Sai is the only place I know of for finding this wine.

Cheers!

The woman who sold me the wine proudly showed off her license to sell alcohol as I asked her if a gov't . issued license was needed to sell alcohol. Assuming her license is legit., such a license required to sell alcohol could cancel out many of the strawberry vendors at the Wararot market.

The market under Airport Plaza (the bit to the north of the food area) has all sorts of fruit wines. When coming from the main entrance at the back where the car park is, take the bottom entrance, go left into the food court area, then right.

There is a small vendor selling strawberry wine, mixed berry wine and various other fruit flavored spirits located in Thanin market.

The best way I could describe the location is if your coming in from the Chang Phueak gate, turn left into the market, go past the food market on your right, head towards the canteen area on the right behind the food market, the small shop is on the left, opposite the canteen area.

The shop is roughly where the iron gate is, in the Google map.
