Tropicalevo
The confusion is caused by the fact that Chaweng was a silly little collection of straw huts years ago when the main area on the island (apart from Nathon) was Tambon Bophut. This is based on 1,000 able bodied men! For those of you who belive Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tambon So - Tambon Bophut starts somewhere near the BayView resort south of Chaweng noi and goes as far as Maenam (I think) It is Tambon Bohut Police Station - not Bophut village police station - as others have said - that 's a police box. Confused or what???

marstons
here is one for you where is bohput police station ? in chaweng of course Thats chaweng police station, Bohput does not have one, does have a police box though. Maybe Big C is pointing out that Chaweng is in Bohput, but chaweng police station is erm well Chaweng police station. Chaweng is part of Bophut. The main station in Chaweng is BOPHUT POLICE STATION. http://samui.thaivisa.com/samui-police/ says here Chaweng Police Station
Rooo
That was written by someone else. They all refer to it as Chaweng police station. But as Chaweng is part of Tambon Bophut the station is called after the Tambin & not it's physical location. Police Stations Lamai - 077.424.068 Maenam - 077.425.070 Bophut - 077.425.

Correct and actually: Ma Ret (มะเร็ต) This is how the 7 island Tambons are named on the map: Map of Ko Samui district, Surat Thani province, with the communes (tambon) numbered Ang Thong (อ่างทอง) Li Pa Noi (ลิปะน้อย) Taling Ngam (ตลิ่งงาม) Na Mueang (หน้าเมือง) Ma Ret (มะเร็ต) Bo Phut (บ่อผุด) Maenam (แม่น้ำ) From: http://en.wikipedia....Tambon_8404.png Actually, when one thinks about it: The Tambons are numbered from 1-7 ANTI-CLOCKWISE.... LaoPo
On the maps, below, it is also quite clear that Chaweng beach area belongs to #6: Tambon Bo Phut and that's also quite logical. Chaweng beach, in the old days, was not important to the locals whilst Bo Phut was very important since it was a centuries' old fishermans village, safely hidden in a bay in the northern part of Samui. The old Chinese fishermen were not so dumb to build their small village with wooden houses (some still there) along the coastline since that part of the island was sheltered for the monsoonwinds, coming from the east. The higher grounds and hills in the NE part of Samui "break" the strong monsoon winds. The beach area of Chaweng was of no importance, apart from the coconut plantations in the old days. If you look a bit closer at the map where the 7 Tambons start in the interior of Samui, one can see that the 7 Tambons all start at the centre of the island where the "rivers" have their origins: On the highest mountain parts of Samui: Edited January 1, 2013 by LaoPo
