"forbidden List"

Recommended Posts

Much to my surprise this morning, when logging onto my favourite pornsite. I suddenly got a message from the ISP, saying that looking at this site is forbidden. Naturally I was extremly pissed off! For the moment it seems to be only this particular ISP, as when I tried another one, I had no such problems

Has anyone else had such problems with their ISP's? What is the way around, if any. Is there some new clandestine moralist crusade going one?

Is the site you were trying to log into hosted in Thailand?

I recently read somewhere (possibly here) that Toxin was going on yet another "crackdown"--This one against porn sites as it's "illegal" in LOS.

From what I gathered though, they would only be blocking sites that were hosted inside LOS.

Also, you're not by any chance using a computer that was once configured to get online in the Middle East are you?

I lived in Abu Dhabi for 14 months once upon a time in '98-'99 & had to reformat my hard drive after leaving there in order to get their cencorship BS off my laptop.

The Thai authorities have been blocking certain sties for some time. Certain US and UK gambling sites were blocked and I think recently they have started blocking some porn sites such as porncrawler.com etc.

You can get round it by using some proxy software, this was discussed on this site a few week ago I suggest you do a search for 'proxy'. I beleive the software is free and works very well.

Good Luck.

Guest IT Manager

The block occurs through a national firewall located in Nonthaburi.

It blocks access to the hosts of the sites, by ip address.

Use an anonymiser site, if it's that important. I actually have the list of blocked sites.

Samart card, just seems to have put a complete block on everything
true, samart is trying to restrict the porn access.
Use an anonymiser site

###### is 100% right

if you are into porn sites, you shouldn't be using a regular browser like IE as you are spread eagled to spyware, trojans and viruses that easily go around virus protection like mcafee and norton. use the camera shy browser

the best html coders work for porn sites as they pay the most, so if you want to learn advanced html check out the html code and scripts.

yeh right huski, check out the code and not the pictures...

I've had trouble logging on to sites which have no porn content at all. For some reason, I can't access Yahoo if I use CS Loxinfo as my ISP. Also the Nation's site is transferred to Nation Comics. The CS support staff seem mystified, but that ISP is indirectly owned by the Prime Minister and the Nation is not his favourite newspaper.

Not sure if this is technically correct, but first log on to google in overseas or mamma.com and go from there to the site your are looking for.

It worked for me last time FEER was banned and it works for a lot of people I know who do not want their system administrator in the office to follow their log-ins

Try to find a provider in the US of the UK who has a SOCKS server.

You can then configure an Secure Socks session all the way from your machine to the outside of the firewall on the socks box.

The only thing the local provider can see is alot of traffic between the your IP address and the Socks server.

One other interesting thing is when you use a SOCKS box, your IP address gets stuffed around with and your IP address can be anything in the range of the socks box.

Is it still called "censorship" when the government blocks what is illegal? I mean, do we have a god-given right to look at pornography? Even in that bastion of free speach called the USA, one cannot buy or sell pornography involving animals or children. There are limitations to freedom of speech and expression in every country.

I'm sure if the US could block access to pedo-porn sites, they would. Difference is, they know it's a losing battle, whereas Thailand is still attempting (ultimately futilely) to fight the fight.

it's a sad futile song...

again why are we so hung up on the human body and make it ugly/obscene?

i find a porn a nice pre-sex turn on and my wife likes it too. we are not talking about child sex here, just normal porn which has been around for millions of years.

oh my god there is a girl over there wearing a string dress how disgusting burn her at the stake!

sad.

fatty (im going to sue the bbc for exposing me to janet's breast - i'm now emotionally damaged, is that deranged?)

I don't want to get into a debate about porn here. Just simply to say that, as an adult I wish to be free to make my own choices, as God intended that I should. Now if he has given me that freedom. Tell me who is more superior than him to take it away?

I have downloaded some Socks Software. However I am not sure yet how it works. Does one have to load one's broswer into the software? What is the best way to set it up???

get all the hummingbird stuff, configure the socks stack, think about getting an account with a provider with a SOCKS box........ Or get an account anywhere in the world with a provider with a SOCKS box.

Then the material you need for a live art painting will be available. :o

Oh, I agree with you about that -- 100%. As long as both the participants and the viewers are consenting adult humans. But that is the standard of my culture and society -- not Thai culture. I won't poo-poo Thailand because the Thai people -- via their elected representatives -- have decided that pornography should be illegal. I don't hear many Thais whining that their human rights are being violated because they don't legally have access to porno.

the easyest way round it is to goto a site such as the following

www.tehbox.com/proxy/

search for a anon proxy in the country of your choice, goto tools -> internet options in explorer. Select the DUN your using click settings, activate the use proxy box, then enter the proxy IP.

No need for specialist software

Having spent years in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Libya, where censorship of one sort or another is a way of life, I find the gripes and complaints of those unable to access one or two particular sites to be a little childish.

Thai culture is not permissive - on the beach it is the farang ladies who go topless, to the disgust of the local population. (And usually to my disgust as well, 'cos they're fifty-five year olds, with dugs around their knees).

If there are ways around this censorship, for those who inist on viewing or reading about porn, fine - let them make the effort to do so.

What I want is an easy (free) way to get rid of all these pop-up adverts for Viagra and so on. They seem to have got worse since Microsoft started advertising it's new 'Spam filter' at so much a month.

I use CSLoxinfo and have no problem accessing either Yahoo or the Nation. My home page is Yahoo, and I just opened the site The Nation

For Yahoo or possible for both, you may have a corrupted cookie. Try deleting the Yahoo cookie and see if you can access the web site. The same for the Nation.

First of all my questions is why the heck would anyone need porn sites here? Life is a porno in Mung Thai.

Something that has prevented my system form getting over cookied and these little jerk cookies. is a great program called Ad Aware. Works great keeping the system clean of Data mining and ad cookies.

I downloaded the google toolbar which has a pop swatter. No pop-ups now for nearly 3 months. Bliss.

In his old days:

Unshackled Trink

There are lots of comments and observations about sex, sex and strange sex, and he has become a lot more candid about his personal likes and dislikes regarding the subject, one of which is surfing for porn on the Net. (That’s a like, not a dislike.)

UP2U-------POPUP Elimination--------

Go to www.alexa.com & download their browser toolbar. It has a pop-up blocker installed. I think the new Google toolbar has a pop-up blocker as well.

CDK,

El D

PS-I'll take viagra pop-ups over "EMIRATES INTERNET: THIS SITE IS NOT ALLOWED" screens any and every day :o

Looks like I'm headed back over there in a couple weeks....At least the bars stay open 'till 2:00AM............
