Visa Exemptions. What Do The Airlines Staff In Bkk Know ?

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,

My thai husband (we're married since 04/2005) does not need a visum anymore to come to Belgium (or any other Schengen country).

He has his thai passport and is alien belgian ID card (the yellow card for those familiar with this)

He's just gone to visit his family in Isan and I follow him in a few weeks. We're scheduled to come back in Belgium mid april this year.

As it is the first time he'll travel without a visa, I'm a bit scare about the knowledge of the check in staff at don muang (we fly on BR - EVA Airways). Do you think they 're familiar with this ?

We'll travel with the original of our marriage registration in Koksijde (Belgium), and his name appears on my ID card (not on my passport), and my name appears also on his alien yellow ID card.

What do you think ?

Thanks to you all for your help.

Some countries have an immigration official on duty at the airport when flights to that country are due to check in.

I’ve seen the airline check in staff call one of these officers out when a person with a visa issued earlier that day tried to check in for a flight. The visa hadn’t appeared on the airline screen.

The immigration officer arrived, checked the passport and approved that person to board the flight.

I assume Belgium and the airline will have some arrangement similar to this at the airport. Maybe a call to the airline office will ease your concerns.

I've already wrote to EVA in Taipei but still no answer.

I'm concerned because :

- out flight is at 3.20 am (so belgian embassy closed to query information).

- we flight to Amsterdan (no flights to Brussels) so Eva airways has certainly no contacts with a belgian representative

Anyone more info ?

Have just have response from EVA Taipei. It seems not that easy.

They told me they've jsut sent a telex to check-in in BKK to have more information.

So now, once again, I'm still waiting.

I'm still hoping that someone who shared that situation in the past could give his comment

Thanks folks

My wife just went through this last month with EVA at BKK. While standing in line, a man was going through and asking everyone for their plane tickets and passports. When he got my wife's, he looked through her passport, then asked for her greencard. She gave it to him and that was that. At the counter, my wife gave her ticket, passport and greencard. The agent took the ticket and passport, then returned the greencard, but after a moment requested the greencard again. It was just that easy. There were no problems in Taipei either.

I assume the yellow card you speak of is some kind of residence certificate and that along with Thai passport is all that is required. This is what the airline people read when they plug in Thai passport and Belgium residence for travel to Belgium:

National THAILAND (TH) /Residence BELGIUM (BE)

Destination BELGIUM (BE)

BELGIUM (BE)

Passport together with Belgian Identity Card for aliens or

Belgian Certificate of Registration required.

Visa not required provided holding proof of residence.

Applicable during the period of the Winter Olympic Games

(January 10, 2006 to March 26, 2006) and Paralympic Games

(February 10, 2006 to April 19, 2006):

---------------------------------------------------------

Holders of the Olympic Identity and Accreditation Card (OIAC)

are free to enter and stay for the period stated on the OIAC.

For details see TINEWS/N7 or www.timaticweb.com.

Minor belonging to a school group does not need passport or

visa if:

- minor is mentioned on a common format list authenticated by

the Aliens Department of the country of residence; and

- photograph of the minor must be attached to this list.
