Portuguese "temporary Local" Saying Hello!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

My name is João and I came all the way from Portugal to volunteer at a local charity in Kamala, for 6 months.

I have been here for 4 months already and it has been so good that I might be extending my stay for a while hehe.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello to the community.

Also, I’m always looking for tips on where to get the best food (while keeping it cheap and relatively near Kamala!).

Thanks!

Hello! Good for you! Enjoy! And I hope you have a work permit... I buy a lot of my food at the outdoor afternoon markets. I'm not sure where they are over in Kamala though. Not my neighborhood.

Hello. Welcome to the forum.

Places to eat in Kamala: L&K restaurant. They are located near the entrance to the dead end road which runs in front of Black Cats (Kamala Beer Garden would be behind you). They are on the right side in same building as a mini mart and a massage. Good food, low price. Also, in that same area, just to the left of White Resort and opposite Popeye’s is a small noodle shop. Neung, the owner has a complete Thai menu, but is well known for excellent noodle soups, with reasonable prices. For some western food, with a complete Thai menu too, try The Club Hotel restaurant, opposite Aussie Bar???, on the main road. Very good burgers, salads, sandwiches. Prices are a little high, but worth it.

Hello and thank you for your replies!

Yes, I do have a work permit! Hehe.

Thank you very much for your suggestions! I know L&K and have been there a couple of times already. I go to Popeye's often and I see the noodle shop, but never went there. One of the people I work with really likes noodle soup, so I'm sure she'll really appreciate that suggestion.

The Club Hotel: every time I'm at Aussie and I look across the street I see it and I tell myself "it looks good, I should go there". Always afraid to get burned, though. I guess I can definitely go there now!
