Bomb attack in S. Thailand injures 14, including 12 policemen

(Kyodo) _ A bomb targeting police exploded Friday in southern Thailand, injuring 12 policemen and two others, the police said.

The attack occurred in a village of the Ra-ngae district in Muslim-dominated Narathiwat Province.

The police said insurgents detonated the bomb with a mobile phone after police arrived to investigate a shooting of a villager.

"It was a trap because the bomb exploded while police were investigating the shooting area," a policeman said.

I always thought that the recent moves to get all phones registered was doomed to failure, the terrorists simply steal someone else's. I'm pretty sure that with a modicum of coordination all the phone antennae in the region of a police investigation could be taken offline for a while though.
