Hummus widely available in Pattaya at the many Arabic restaurants mostly in South Pattaya, at the few Israeli restaurants, imported stuff at expat markets including SABRA brand hummus at Villa, also a locally made hummus for sale at Foodmart.

Vegan Ice Cream? You make me feel like a rube because I'm not really familiar with the concept. Watch out for the cruelty free honey though! (That stings.)

i’d like to install one of these machines in my house and pump its crazy-good ice cream down my throat on a daily basis.

I started making my own Hummus at home in Pattaya as the ingredients are easily had. Search the forum here (or google) for some great recipes that are quite easy to make. Dried chickpeas can be had from Lotus.

Here are the ones I buy from Lotus

And here is the place I go near walking street for great hummus.

99% of the Indian population are vegetarian. You gonna say it doesn't do much good for them as well?

Multiple studies have been done that show that vegetarians live longer than meat eaters

personally, I eat meat but would certainly not put someone down cause they chose not to.

The Smiths were really good until Johnny Marr left the band. After that, it was all downhill.

I am not sure why there is not vegan icecream , they are based on soy, so there is a vast ammounts of soy in Thailand, but i wonder why nobody produces that

it would be without cholesterol, you would not gain fat after eating a cup etc

Milk is cholesterol, and that is bad, it clogs your veins up, so is meat and eggs

But still thai people eat pretty healthy, besides those awful saisages from the stands, who knows what is inside those for god sake

but i like people eat a lot of fruits

Indians on the other hand boil their shit for hours, which is not healthy and you feel how heavy their food is even though it is vegetarian

thai people dont cook their food for hours

Nice sad.png And Merry Christmas to you too.

I wonder who it was that produced this lovely quote:

"It's so easy to laugh

It's so easy to hate

It takes strength to be gentle and kind"

It is readily available in Chiang Mai. Real ice cream is cheaper and tastes a lot better though.

Back to the topic of hummus in supermarkets, I have more info and a correction.

Villa doesn't have Sabra brand hummus.

What they do have is Black Swan from Australia, I think an Israeli brand now not sure of the name, and Cedars an American brand.

Years ago I tried the Black Swan stuff and seriously did not like it.

The Israeli stuff looks the best, has cool looking chickpeas on the bottom, and pine nuts on the top, and is the most costly by weight.

I recently tried the Cedar's GARLIC flavored hummus and I like it a lot. It's priced similarly to the Black Swan by weight.

They also have classic, red pepper, and sundried tomato. I don't think I would try anything but the garlic though. It is intense. Not at all authentic to flavor hummus this way but who cares? Also I found it really rich, meaning a smaller portion suffices.

I don't love the locally made stuff at Foodmart, seems unseasoned, but still to me is better than Black Swan.

make the tahini yourself. The main ingredient is sesame seeds which are readily available here.

http://www.cinnamons...e-tahini-paste/

As a tip, I use a mortar and pestle (found all throughout this country) to grind the seeds (after you roast them) and then add olive oil (or sesame oil) to the mix as you are pounding the roasted seeds.

Here are a ton of hummus recipes that are very easy to make. I have made several varieties that I feel taste lovely.

http://mideastfood.a...a/hummus101.htm

http://mideastfood.a...musbitahini.htm

look around that site as they have many diff hummus recipes.

I like this one as well

Friendship sells two brands of tahini paste; I like the one in the glass jar, delicious and cheap @ around 100 baht. It only takes about 10 minutes to make great hummus!

Basic Hummus-

Makes: 3 cups

  • 2 1/2 cups of canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/3 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup of tahini
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • parsley (cilantro) and olive oil to garnish

Prepare:

Put 1/2 the lemon juice and all ingredients into the blender except the chickpeas (and the parsley and oil for garnish) and blend. Rinse the canned chickpeas well and then add the chick peas and blend on high until it reaches the the consistency of sour cream, but granular, about 10-15 seconds. Blend in remaining lemon juice to taste. If the dip is too thick, add a little water slowly and blend until it reaches the correct consistency. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours before serving. Drizzle of olive oil over the top and add a garnish of parsley/cilantro and olives before serving with toasted pita wedges.

thanks for the recipe, anybody have any idea about other dips or spreads for bread? Vegan possibly?

Also I could not find sesame seeds that are not hulled, I prefer brown ones, white ones I dont like because they take all the good out of them

Good bless Thailand, there is so much food choice!
