webfact Posted December 25, 2012 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Five killed in three highway crashes The Nation BANGKOK: -- A rear tyre blew out on a Bangkok-Phetchaburi public transport van, sending it crashing into a tree and plunging into ditch in Ratchaburi's Muang district yesterday, killing three people and injured nine others. After the accident at 7am on Phetkasem Highway in tambon Angthong, police found the three bodies - two women and a man - trapped in the submerged van. The injured were taken to Ratchaburi Hospital. Police have arrested the van driver, Jiraset Yuangsa-ard. On Monday night in Buri Ram’s Muang district, a pickup truck carrying Surin funeral guests back to work in Bangkok lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch, killing one woman and injuring nine others including a three-year-old girl. Police suspected the truck driver dozed off behind the wheel. In Ratchaburi’s Pak Tho district, a sedan crashed into a tractor, killing one person and wounding six others yesterday. Police said the Nissan Sunny, overtaking another car from the left, crashed into the rear of a tractor carrying straw on the Phet-kasem Highway in tambon Wang Manao at 11am. People carrying passengers in almost all civilized countries do have to make a very serious test and medical check up, why not here? Speed of course but they drive like crazy people. Not only fast but jerky and lane switching and racing and just plain odd and stupid driving patterns. It really doesn't matter if it was a full grown elephant of three naked go-go dancers, the fact is you should drive at a speed enabling you to avoid these sort of things. At least they got the driver, he must have been too injured to run off. Do you think the police breath tested him? Nah... the machine didn't work. It would be nice to see the Highway Police pulling over some of the wrecks, there's certainly enough of them, but all they seem to do is escort VIP groups around. You slag off Thailand and state its' poor maintenance', poor driving. drunk driving etc etc etc. Like your home countries are even better? Two young boys and a woman died in the UK yesterday..............car flipped over.............yet the UK has one of the best safety records going..............along with stringent checks on vehicles.
