I read a letter reprinted in a newspaper about a Dutch guy visiting Bali after being away for 10 years. His letter complained that the place was ruined and he was crushed. The funny thing is that the letter was written in the 1800's. Yes, people will always long for the old days when things were cheaper, simpler, cleaner, etc. My first trip to Samui was in 1990 and it certainly was idyllic. Sure, it is different now, better in some ways, worse in others. But, I think that people are too quick to complain about Samui. The prostitution isn't anywhere near as rampant or in your face as in Phuket or Pattaya. Yes, the taxis are over priced, but nothing like Phuket, where if you argue about the price with the tuk tuk driver, you've got a 50% chance of ending up in the hospital. The infrastructure is under stress, but it is being worked on and the new rules, whereby Samui gets its money from the federal govt, rather than from Surat Thani is very positive. My guess is that Samui is learning from Phuket's mistakes and won't have the same issues. If you are looking ahead 10 years, I think it's hard to find a better prospective island. If you feel differently, pls tell me which island has a better decade ahead of it...

Well Sparticus would not give up. The emper would lead us into Rome and Justin Beaver has loads of fans. Going on that basis anything is possible. If Just beever can get people to like him.
