Can I Get A Non-Imm Visa If I Need To Come To Thai To Look After My Father Who Has A Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

I have an Irish passport. My father has been living in Thailand for the past 12 years. He now has a retirement visa. He has gone blind in one eye and his health is deteriorating. Is it possible for me to gain a non-immigrant visa in order to 'nurse' him? Or, is there another way?

I am already in Thailand now with my children having entered via China on a 30 day tourist visa. My kids are all under age 10, what will be the situation for them also?

You will need to use tourist visas to stay, unless you get your kids into school and then piggy back their extensions based on studying.

Surely would need a doctor's certificate that your father could not take care of himself.

It would have to be issued as a special case for compassionate reasons, and your father would need to be unable to care for himself.

And IF it were granted it would be only for one person as the designated caretaker. and only a direct relative (probably a son or daughter) could get such a visa, not for their dependents.

But it would be very difficult to get, a special case granted by immigration on compassionate basis ... and at best it will be very difficult to get.

Bottom line .... if you do get such a thing, it's going to be a long difficult process at the best.

If your kids went to school in Thailand they could get 12 monthly permissions to stay from Immigration.

You could get the same 12 month stays as their parent if you have 500,000 Baht in a Thai bank.

The money has to be in the bank for a period of 30 days before application.

Another option would be for you to enrol in a Thai Language School and get Education Visas.
