As such, one cannot be accused of supporting the coup if one applauds the attack against the corrupt BMA officials.

The charges against Thaksin were used as a means to get rid of a popularly elected official that caused concern to the entrenched elites. If Thaksin was guilty of corruption, then the book should be thrown at him. However, the charges should have been brought by an independent judiciary and prosecuted in a transparent manner. The similiarity was that both had a charge sheet as long as your arm and the law knew the only way they could avoid fighting an endless legal battle was to go for one case they knew they could win.

I think it's fair to say that it was more a matter of where the backhander was paid. Appears that the bma might not have had the right to sign the deal and someone got pissed off that they missed a massive payday.
