Nook Arrived, But Not Sure How To Install

Featured Replies

My Nook arrived about 30 minutes ago (no tax) but I'm not sure how to get it to install on my laptop. I've plugged it in to the USB port and am presently charging it.

When I plugged it in it said "device not recognised", so does the Nook have to charge first? Also, it says in the instructions that I have to register the Nook first, which it involves giving credit card details so I can buy books. As I already have around 200 epub books in Calibre on my laptop, I only want to transfer the books to the Nook. Does the Nook have to be registered to work? Any info appreciated.

Windows won't recognise many input devices, without a bit of work on your behalf. You need to access device manager and work around that.

Basically, click [start], type [device manager] and that should start thing going.

Here is a thread describing a similar problem: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111421

Good luck, AA

I forgot to mention, you don't need to register online (with CC details etc.) unless you want to buy books...

I was hoping that was the case, but it asks me to register before it will perform any functions. I've got it stuck at "what network to use" because it asks for the pin # for my True network, but for some reason it won't accept it.

As far as I know, it is not recommended to charge the Nook via your laptop.

Why not just plug it in to a wall socket and see how you go?

I had to register my Nook before it would work. As stated in another thread

about this where I told you I had to register it.

I had to call a B&N call centre in the Phillipines to get it registered.

All I had to do was provide the serial number from the back of the box.

Have you tried emailing B&N about registration?

Regards

Will

You can only plug in via a wall socket if you have the special adapter. The Nook instructions say to charge using the USB port on your computer.

You can register an account without giving your credit card details.

I just did a "dry run" and you can.

So why don't you create an account, log on and try to register it?

I will have a look for the call centre phone number but I think you

should try and register it yourself first.

Thanks, all up and running now. I registered via a friend's network, no credit card details required. Have downloaded several books via Calibre, all working fine. Oh, joy!

One more question: Is there a headphone jack on the Nook 2? I can't seem to find one.
