Just wondering if any Aussies have any info about relocating to New Zealand with a Thai wife (who doesn't have an Aus visa).

This was originally our backup plan if things went awry with the Spouse Visa. So wanna get some info about it cos I don't know much about it. I know as an aussie I can move over to NZ no problem, and I've heard it's easier for a Thai to get a NZ visa (don't know how true that is tho), but not sure how conceivable it is for both to go over at the same time (when neither has lived there before).

Anyone?

Thats a question for our NZ friends....or the NZ immigration.

doubt it would be any easier to get a NZ spousal visa that it would be to get an Australian one.

We are not there yet, but in many ways Australia and NZ have tried to harmonise as many of their laws as possible.

As for your application, last time I looked, Australians intending to live in NZ are granted automatic permanent residency upon arrival there. As such, you'll have to look at the rules for NZ permanent residents bringing over spouses. It may or or may not be the same proceedure for full NZ citizens.

Thought of this one too.

Don't worry I have good feeling for you in what u have posted.

Just keep talking to Rob at the embassy. David Merz appears to be replaced.

Damien Kilner, the new PMO in Bangkok.

Regards :o

Don't even think about it! I am an Kiwi.

I became an Australian Citizen last year to make it easier for me to get my fiancee to Australia(on advice from the Thai lady that interviewed my fiancee in BK, (I believe she was correct) I've lived in Australia since 1974.(it was overdue anyway)

I did look into that also but the same requirements for her, spouse to get to Australia from New Zealand are the same as from Thailand and you will just be taking the long drawn out way of doing it.

My advice is be patient my friend I've waited 12 months but had complications with AOS Centrelink etc,if your ladies application is in,you will get an interview within 6-12 weeks and she will know whats needed etc and things will start moving. If you decide to go to NZ and you get the visa it will be another 3-12 months wait.

I know how waiting can effect a relationship,if you are strong it will survive any thing and I'm bloody sure the Dept Of Immigration on purposely set their goals as to test most out.

Good Luck.

Yeah you're right. It is a bloody trial, but we're old hands at it now, and nothing's gonna break us.

As far as NZ, yeah you're right again, it's not really an option, just wanted to know for interest's sake.

Chris: ahhh it all comes clear now! That's why all my emails to David bounced before (unknown email address!). Well Rob seems the man to correspond with. And yes, we have a good feeling the visa will be resolved within the next month. We are quite happy with the turn of events! :o If we haven't heard something by end of March I'll hassle them further.

I dont know why everyone complains about why it is so hard for people to come to Oz or Kiwi to live and work etc.

That is the way it should be, they are protecting the country. If they made it easy dont you think even the furtherest desert corner would now be inhabited with the poorest people from the world over eaking out a living.

The only reason you all complain is that it is happening to you right now. Otherwise you would not give a hoot.

I'm not complaining about the fact it takes a long time, but about the lack of communication and customer service. We all know it takes a long time, but waiting sucks and consideration where consideration's due is all we ask. It's really not difficult to inform the applicants occasionally about what's going on. It takes less than a minute to send an email.

We are certainly not implying that they let people into the country willy-nilly. Just fine-tune and streamline the process and increase turn-over of applications (not saying turn-over of *successful* applications, just on results).

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that's unreasonable. :o

So what do u want to teach people. U may have rights but we are going to frustrate u in the process and hopefully u don't come because ur skin colour is not the same.

How do u know the people posting these threads have not worked in the field before. They may care but u don't know. Ur view can be taken as a bigot.

See u miss the point, the problem is common decencey and good manners. Its not hard to provide this, but when u become superior u will only give out what u want to give out.

I don't think too many people will take away ur simpson desert corner. :o

Who is this 'they'?

Actually, it is surprisingly easy to move to NZ; you just need to pass the points scheme with a stash of cash, or manage to stay in the country about 5 years and you are in.

The FACT that so many NZers choose to live somewhere else suggests that the country has some serious issues regarding the working environment there, and the FACT that it is not that hard to move there if you have money suggests that the govt is happy enough to let in anyone, so long as they have enough cash to keep the economy (housing and cars especially) from tanking.

Ironically, poor immigrants are probably the ones who work hardest and would probably make the biggest positive difference to the country, and some do get in.

I don't see anyone complaining here.

As far a NZ; it seems very easy, I know of countless Thai women who have milked some guy to get a visa in, applied for PR, got it then divorced. If these people can do it, I am sure that if you have genuine love that it is only a matter of time before you can get your partner in the right way :-)

Best of luck with that.

n&m you know buggar all about immigration issues and I regard you as a troll.

The posters in this thread have genuine issues and you not have the slightest idea what they are or how it affects their emotions, your comment above is insensitive, watch your posts in future or your warn level increases again :o

Thankyou so much bronci for your so informed reply. You can regard me as whatever you want, that is your right I guess. As it is my right to express my views that people who complain about the due process, because there is a reason behind the due process.

As for knowing nothing about immigration, possibly your right, but I have been through the process and would probably know a little more than you.

So if you think my reply is insensitive, well, the truth hurts as they say and sometimes people need a little blunt truth to wake up and realise that there is a reason for the due process, live with it, work with it and make it happen, stop whining about it.

May be this is why u are whining. No one would help u.

Mate, part of the Aussie spirit is to lend your brother a hand. Some times it is good to do this. Try it it is good for the soul.

The problems faced by most of the posts about the Embassy is the lack of help that is often from the mushrooms at the front counter. If u have done any work with govt depts. this has been a common practice in the past to stem the flow of support and information to the public. This is called indifference and should not be accepted. While u are in this process, which hightens the emotions, judgement or clear passage does not always come freely. I think this forum offers a valuable part to the process to refocus.

It is learning how to get around these minefields that siop u moving foward. That has what these posts have been about. The courage to move forward.

Maybe this thread is bringing up some rage and hostility in you and the process that u went thru. And again sometimes it is good to talk about so u eventually get better.

Ignorance and bigotry will always hold u back from seeing the real issue.

If nothing changes nothing changes.

Maybe u would like to share ur experience. U never know u might be helping someone. :o
