Samoeng - Wat Chan - Pai Route

Anyone done this route recently? Along the 1349 from Samoeng to Wat Chan, then the 1265 to (near) Pai. Wondering how much is now paved/unpaved and the condition of the unpaved sections after the long rainy season. I've got a 4WD pickup but won't have time for lots of slow driving.

Thanks for all experience shared.

Started from that route 10-days ago as part of a 600km 'off-road' motorcycle trip.

From Samoeng the 1349 is potty and broken in places but not too bad, then turns to a nice long strip of fresh pavement before and several kms after Yang Ha.

It is 60kms from Yang Ha to Wat Chan of which 34km is very, very ruff. It took us 2hrs and we were on Kawi KLX 250's.

Don't know the condition of the 1265 since we rode onward to Mae Hong Song -Super ruff track!!

I don't really recommend it on 4-wheels as of yet. I suggest save your time and your truck the punishment, take the regular 1095 route to Wat Chan.

Thanks very much for the reply, HS. That 'straight on' route from Wat Chan to MHS is great, isn't it? Took the 4WD that way a few years ago.

But will take your advice this time and stick to the 1095.

1095 is to Pai though right? I'm also guessing the road that goes to Wat Chan coming from the 1095 is a lot better than getting there from Samoeng?

Another question: are there places to stay in Wat Chan?
