Hello. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion about the best smartphone coverage in Thailand. I know a little bit of it depends on the plan (for example, "3G for the first 1GB," etc...), but I'm interested to know if anyone has had really bad coverage w/ a particular carrier. Or any other really bad experiences. True seems to have terrible customer service. Very few of their reps don't speak English. Even my Thai friends complain about their service... I'd rather not do business w/ AIS, but I'm told their coverage is far and away the best. Dtac reps are relatively friendly and helpful.

Not sure exactly what "coverage" means? Geography? Population? GSM? 3G?

AIS probably has both the best geographic and population coverage for GSM, and perhaps even 3G when you factor in their roaming agreement with TOT.

DTAC might have the second best GSM coverage, for both geography and population,

TrueMove (not TrueMove H) have almost as much GSM coverage as DTAC, but no 3G. They may have 2100 MHz 3G sometime this year, maybe as a separate brand?

TrueMove H, as a reseller of some of the CAT 3G network, has good coverage, and you can roam onto the legacy 1800 MHz TrueMove GSM network.

It is fairly simple to get prepaid SIMs and experiment to see which service provider can meet your requirements. SIMs are ~ 50 baht, and daily mobile data plans are 49 baht.

If you can share any details re: your equipment, location and requirements you may get better recommendations.

Typically threads like this quickly devolve into:

Your service provider sucks, and mine is great.

or

Your service provider sucks, and so does mine.

55. Fair enough. By coverage I just mean best signal and speed in regards to internet.

True move H has the best 3G coverage, and will most likely maintain the lead for the next 6 to 12 months. AIS 3G pretty much sucks now, but with the new license, I am sure they will make head way.

If 2g and voice coverage, sure, AIS is the incumbent

You missed the most relevant one...

"ALL the service providers suck, or are great, depending where you are."

If the OP is "on the move", he's unlikely to find any one provider that works...

If he's in and around one specific area, chances are he'll find at least one decent provider for that area...

Admittedly I only use it in Pattaya, BKK and Chiang Mai, but AIS works just fine, so I don't see why you say it "pretty much sucks now".

Maybe they are picking up, i ditched their SIM about 2 months back. Was on "E" (2G) alot, and very often no throughput.
