Popular Post guzzi850m2
Admittedly not shot in the wild but in the bird dome in Khao Kheow open Zoo where the birds at least have space and can fly around as they pleases, or hide high up in the trees. The Sony RX100 M3 is not what you can call a "bird shooter" but this little fellow was quite tame so I stuck my camera right up in his face and full 70mm tele. Photo not cropped, ISO1000 1/320sec f4.5. Anybody know the name of this little beautiful bird?
Goshawk
^ A White-rumped Shama you got there guzzi. I've been to that bird dome at Khao Kheow too, although it must be 10yrs ago now, but i remember it being pretty darn good . . the largest aviary i've ever been in.

Thanks Goshawk, yes it's good for bird photographing but I regret now that I didn't bring my Olympus Stylus1 with up to 300mm tele. Well we go 2-4 times a year because of my 5 year old son, it's funny for him feeding all the animals, so next time no excuses. Okay now I got the name I can write that into comments on my Flickr photo of it.

sunshine51
Any idea out there what type of wild doves these are? Two pairs have just decided to reside in our area this morning. Hope they stay around. Outer colours are a mix of different greens while their inner colourings are bright yellow & orange red. The vocalisations sound like muted electronic beeps...soft and nice. Their approach "bubble" is around 15 feet or so since as I was shifting for a better shot I entered their safe zone and they flew off. Camera was me G12 on program....about 30 minutes after I rolled outta bed.

sunshine51
Any idea out there what type of wild doves these are? Pink-necked Green Pigeon . . Thanks GH...it's just finished pouring down rain & I heard the little computer blip noises they make, grabbed a "proper" camera & headed out the side door only to see em dash away. They were more co-operative this morning. One further bit of info...these pidgeons seem to be accompanied by 4 birds which are about the size of the generic Myna only these are all black with red eyes (males I guess) and the females are a generic sand brown colour with numerous white spots all over em. They resemble the Koel's we have heaps of, however are only about 1/6th the size....and much quieter are their vocalisations which are many seemingly repeated in random. Again...we have never seen the wild pidgeons before today whereas the small red eye black & spotted brown critters are rather common. In the US...as kids we used to call em Starlings....the bane of grain farmers nation wide. Thanks for the ID...next I'll try & get the smaller birds that hang around the pidgeons...along with said pidgeons...mind you...it is difficult to find obiging models these days...hah!
