Looks like: Scaly-breasted munia (Lonchura punctulata topela) also possible a domesticated species (Lonchura var. domestica).

Don't really have the equipment or the skill to capture and of the beautiful wild birds, like you folk do.

Hope you will accept this fine looking bird I captured at one of our local temples, instead.

Currently working for the past week or so 200km south of HCMC on the coast and there's a noticeable lack of bird life here. Area would be similar to coastal areas west and east of BKK but I think I've seen no more than 5 birds. Never heard bird song yet. Someone says it's because the locals catch and eat but I don't know if that's true.

^Thinking about it I've seen about 5 birds, 1 geko, 2 dogs and no cats in 10 days here. Definitely NOT Thailand!

This bird was not in my garden so I will post here.Being new to this game I have a lot to learn. Is this a grey heron? The black is confusing me.

Not sure about this very small bird either. I would be grateful for an Id.

Used to have one of these as pet a few years back... I hand raised it when I rescued it from off the road in the middle of the night where it had fallen from a nest.  He could speak Thai, English and Bird.  He was allowed out the cage to fly about the garden in the daytime... and after a couple of years he attracted a wild mate and they nested in the roof of my pool pump house.  Had a lovely family of his own and then left with them to join a huge wild flock.  It was always funny to see him singing to his mate and talking to her in English... bet she was confused!

Was reading up on these White Vented Mynah, also known as Javan Mynahs.

They are virtually extinct in Java as so many were caught for cage birds.

Their natural range has been spreading north.

I have lived in the same house in Phuket for 15 years. When I moved in, there were only Common Mynahs.

Now, there is a mix whereby the White Vented make up approximately 50% of all the Mynahs I see.

Got this one yesterday. To me it looks like a streak eared bulbul

Red-throated, I think. Otherwise known as "Taiga." But not Asian Brown.

I have it as most likely a Grey-breasted Prinia.
