Just When You Think You've Seen It All......

There was a thread here recently which showed and discussed a poor little girl hit off a motorcycle by a passing lorry and knocked under the wheels. That was shocking enough and terrible to see.

Unfortunately yesterday whilst I was travelling on a Bus on the main highway the driver drove over a man's body in the road and didnt even stop !!

There appeared to have been some sort of accident with a motorcycle and car colliding and there was a body lying in the centre of the road, the bus braked, slowed down a little from the 100kmph and lined up to take the body down the centre between the front wheels but there was a loud thump as the twin axle wheels went over him, he just drove straight over him, didnt stop, nothing, like some dead dog left there. I was expecting that maybe the Police would stop the bus sometime later, but no nothing at all and things just carried on as normal.

is it just me that finds this hard to accept ? seemed so different to reading it etc, when you are actually in the vehicle that does it and no one cares.

My intent is not to be crass, but depending upon the distance, the driver may have been unable to brake in time and had he braked suddenly, the bus may have overturned causing additional injuries/fatalities.

If your comment is in respect to the failure to stop, the decision may have been based upon the delivery of a fatal injury and the fear of the immediate consequences. It is not unusual for drivers to be blamed and set upon by an angry mob.

Please do not interpret this as my support for the breach of the law and basic responsible behaviour. Unfortunately, most people in Thailand run away after a fatal collision. Sadly, this is the common behaviour.

Unfortunatly this is common place in thailand, yes agianst the law but most thai's worry about their bank ballance before worrying about the peson they have just run down, because they do not want to have to pay hospital bills or compensation...

not far from my house there was a lady riding her motorcycle and was hit by a car, the young lady driving the car didn't want to be court so she reversed back over the motoercyclist to kill her, but other people saw what happened and followed her too her home so she was court in the end...

DISGUSTING, IN-HUMANE, SICKENING...

Just to clarify a few things as you have not given much clear info;

1) I take it you were traveling on an Inter City Bus (VIP, 1st or 2nd class) and sitting near the front with a full view - you give the impression you had a good view? Was it a Transport Company Bus or a private operator?

2) Where exactly did this incident take place, location & highway? Was it an area of open, straight dual carriage highway - which I am assuming given you stated the bus slowed down from 100km - or an intersection? Or just after a curve without any warning of the upcoming accident scene?

3) What time of the day was it, day or night - any factors that may have inhibited the drivers view?

4) Given that you had a good view of the oncoming accident scene, was there already emergency crews and police in attendance Was the body clearly lifeless with no one attending to the body?

5) I am assuming that no one on the bus who may have noticed said anything at all to the driver, right?

Interested to know a bit more about the exact circumstances if you can provide a little more info...

This seems to be a common occurrence in Buddhist countries and is undoubtedly connected with their belief in reincarnation. No need to try hard avoiding people since they will be returning anyway.

Much worst than the OP Story sick.gif ... almost unbelievable! In many Western countries could get life imprisonment, in Thailand don't know? Money for family?

Charlie,

I see too many people drive through after an accident happened and it lets my blood boil.

Once i sat next to a truck driver when a car drove into a ditch right in front of us. The driver didnt react... I asked why dont you stop? He replied "Do yo want me to stop?"

I said yes, now! Then he stopped and pulled the guy out of the car bearing in mind my dirver would just drive on.. It could have been the difference between life and death..

The driver didn' t care. Very, very sad.

i believe i shared my experience of my afew times but anyway . .

i was on my caribian from chiangmai to pai when i witness a scooterist who had a low side crash. i immediately stopped and had mrs to place breakdown cones as it was along a bend. the mini vans there are insane, very high chance he would get run over if i don't do that

guess what? i got accused of rear ending him. eventually afew other riders stopped along and i became the bad guy. lots of pointing from the guy and lots of eehia eehia and vulgarities from him it was a holiday week for me, i ended up paying the dude 500 baht to a quick end as not to ruin my upcoming holiday. of course mrs wasnt very happy with that

A few months back I was in a car with two Thai friends late at night. The driver of our car slowed down on the 3 lane highway and gave a motorcycle weaving down the road a very wide birth and commented on how drunk he must be.

About 100m after passing him my friend blurted out in Shock... "<deleted>, he must be dead... he's just hit the sign and was flying through the air"... In his rear-view mirror my friend had seen the drunk motorcycle rider weave into a sign in the central reservation and take flight.

A brief discussion ensued and it was agreed by all that we should go back and help. One friend called the ambulance, another watched by while I tried to make sure no one moved the injured guy who appeared stable for the moment - Unconscious, with a strong pulse and breathing (and wetting himself !), the back of his scalp also hanging off, but the scull appeared intact - It was dark and I couldn't tell much. The idea was simply stop people moving him, put pressure on any excessive bleeding, keep him breathing if necessary and wait for the ambulance with a spine-board to arrive.

As the injured party stirred I asked my Thai friend to tell him he'd been in an accident and to stay still, an ambulance was coming and that he was OK.

One important factor: As onlookers appeared I managed to get each of them (about 5 guys) to go down the road and use the lights on their phone and wave their shirts to slow on coming traffic down - My major concern at this point was me getting hit by another drunk driver....

The ambulance arrived and took over. With one final check to make sure I hadn't made contact with any blood we carried on with our evening and partied secure in the knowledge that for one night at least we had looked at the bigger picture and done the right thing.... I'd hope to be in a position where if in the future I had to make the same choice it would be equally as noncomplex.

Doing the right thing sometimes comes with a very high cost.

A good friend of mine was killed while changing a flat tyre for a lady stranded on an expressway.

I was waiting at a junction, a motorcycle pulled up next to me to also join the main road, bike was on my left wing. I waited for traffic to pass, then all of a sudden the bike turned its wheel onto my wing and hit me!!!! <deleted> I think they had forgotten I was there, then they said it was my fault. I was stationary, they drove off quickly.

Land of no responsibility, it often makes me question why I bother staying in such a vile place. And before the dumbass "go home" brigade start I stay for my Wife only, I have NO love of Thailand its culture or people.

Another thing thats more common in stories than in real life. Not because a few of the stories are not true but because they get told over and over giving people the illusion that it happens more than it does.

I accept this, a bit like all Thai women are hookers etc all will take your money, never buy anything in Thailand you cant walk away from etc etc BUT I do find an underlying selfishness in society here.

See post #14. Happens all the time, especially if you're a Farang. sad.png

was one man driving the bus, not the whole nation.

Might have well have been the whole nation when you see the percentage of accidents, and accidents is really a misnomer, replace it with stupid selfishness.

While sympathetic to the suffering the locals seem to see it as a short cut to the next life and are soon eating again.

Some people have tried to educate the land of the free and explain the benefit of foreign practices, most succumb to wine women or cyberspace, some people are beyond help.

We all know that soon enough there will be rain then floods yet do we see a vaste programme of prep.

We all know that no crash helmet increases risk yet the law enforcers themselves are often seen without.

We all know corruption is bad yet surveys here seem to accept it. and so on ad nauseum

Funny how its nicer to live here than that nook shotten isle of Albion with its gay Bishops priestesses Abu Hamza supprt taxes ,lets not even think about the taxes, weather and so called food

Op, if you dont like it, leave , you're a guest here. You obviously have done nothing to adapt to the local culture of treating humans as speed bumps. Take a Thai culture course or something. These wonderful and happy people are doing quite well without your scathing holier than though criticism. Get off your high horse white boy.

Of course, hit-and-runs are completely unknown in your country.

Post of the year right there!! Ya, totally commonplace.. So much so , that a bus driver with a full ship wouldn't even blink an eye at running over a body.. Get a clue, man.
