I would like to know if sending ciggerettes to the UK, would their be any postage problems and also would the receptient be charged for any VAT in the UK? Also what would be the maximum number of ciggeretters that can be sent to the UK?

Paragraph 2.5 has the answer :o

Tobacco:-

50 cigarettes; or

25 cigarillos (cigars with a maximum individual weight of 3 gms; or

10 cigars; or

50 gms of tobacco; or

a proportional assortment of the different products

Alcohol:-

1 litre of distilled beverages and spirits over 22% volume; or

1 litre of fortified or sparkling wine, and some liqueurs of 22% volume or less; or

a proportional assortment of the different products; and

2 litres of still wines

PS. What about whisky also?

Simple answer is that sending more than 50 cigarettes to the UK by post is illegal, unless you arrange to pay tax and VAT which makes the 'fags' dearer than in the shops in UK. You can try sending by post or EMS but you stand a reasonable chance of either getting them confiscated by Thai customs, getting confiscated by UK customs or having them held by Royal Mail until the taxes are paid in UK.

Mate does it all the time - normally puts custom form on it, w/bday or christmas gift ect. Normally works for him. (course he's a Scot, so could explain it) :o

A while back there was a report in the press on the level of tax collected on "Duty Free"

items sold at the airports in Thailand..........

I believe it was 30%. :o

Tell him to be carefull where he disposes of his used "Fags"as its now a £75 find for dropping them the pubic street....the fags that is.......but when you pays your fines you will be given a wee free "stubbie" for future use...nice ..innit :o

Last time at DM, Lites were 20bt (a carton of 200) cheaper than Tesco.

JING JING - Dont do it, I had a friend send some over. 1st time they got to me AOK 2nd time a knock on the door and the post office wanted £138 vat. Sent them away, only to be visited later that week by a team of UK customs & excise officers with a warrent to search my house. So unless you want all the grief DONT DO IT. JING JING
