I haven't had luck. It may be that there just isn't any. I used to be lucky in the states buying these huge drums of it at an old deli shop near my house :( Oh man how I miss it. At this point I'm paying an arm and a leg for just a little. Any suggestions? I don't mind the lower grade stuff but I do want olive oil and I want it to be cheap.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have champagne tastes on a beer budget. I bought a bottle a while back and it was sooo expensive I can't remember how much it cost. This is Thailand, not home.

Bertoli seems to be the big name cheap brand at about 450 baht a liter. I never thought it was very good, but often bought it for the price. Then I saw this one at Makro for 240 baht liter and figured I try it. It was delicious. I truly believe that if you lined it up in a taste test against oils costing 10 times as much, this oil would hold its own. Sometimes its out of stock, but Makro often has it. I have only seen it at Makro.

Its "Robo Olio Extra Vergine Di Oliva" extra virgin olive oil. Imported from Italy. Give it a try. I think you'll be pleased.

Thanks. That sounds good and reasonable for a liter.

What not everyone knows is that there are 2 kinds of Makro's in Thailand : with our without branch of Siam Food Services.

Siam Food Services is a sub of Makro which is specialized in imported food. The more touristic the location of your local Makro is, the more of their 'falang products' you will find.

In their Italian range, they are the importer of Robo products, which is really great at relatively cheap prices. Try also their vinegars, artichokes and mushrooms in oil ;-)

Bon apetit ;-)

In the various farang oriented grocery stories around BKK, Extra Virgin Olive Oil usually goes for about 200 to 220b per 500 ml. But it's also regularly available on sale (different brands, different stores) for 170 to 180b for the same 500 ml sizes... The ones on sale usually seem to originate from Spain, like the Fragrata brand. Even Tesco has their own store brand of EV Olive Oil....

Bought a liter a Samboso, from Spain, olive oil yesterday in Tesco, 362 baht. Macro sells it in big cans also, 10 liters, I think, don't know the price.
