Genericnic Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 So, when did this come about. I just got tickets online a couple of days ago. What a bummer. I used the service often. David p.s. The attached file is a screen capture from the SRT site with the notice SRT.tiff
madmitch Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 It seems that Thai railways are unable to enter the 21st century (or maybe the 1970s for that matter).
tjhorner Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 wow, I had just signed up and used it a few weeks ago; it was fairly easy and quite convenient.... shame.
dundas Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I have also used the internet service a couple of times. Last time no seats were showing as available. We had to call the railways and then they released some more, and we were able to book. But it seems very, very strange that they should just stop the service with no notice!
qdinthailand Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 ummm, guessing from the screenshot - January 14, 2013.
asanee Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 But it seems very, very strange that they should just stop the service with no notice! THINK! If some company does this, it in 99,99% of cases will mean detected fraud- which as such is fairly easy with Cred cards and in TH.
Totster Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Could everybody please take two steps backwards.. Thank you. Carry on totster 1
PoodMaiDai Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Good to see they are moving backwards in typical local fashion. Perhaps by 2015 they make it a company policy that conductors are not permitted to drink on the job.

xen Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Wasn't the site down for a couple of months last year and you had to go thru another travel ticket agency. I remember something like that and found it easier just to go to Humpy and line up & buy across the counter . Thai railways have been running at a loss since forever so maybe it is a "cost cutting " move. Does not make sense tho and will be missed.
BangkokHank Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Maybe there were complaints by the gang that scams tourists at Hualampong. (They man an "information" desk just outside of the station and take unwitting tourists to the official information window inside of the station, where they are told that their train is full - but that there is a bus they can take to their destination instead. This bus is overpriced and broken down.) The possibility to book train tickets online was no doubt cutting into their scamming business.
my friend I Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Possibly they got tired of dealing with the same type of people who come on here & complain about Air asia.

That's exactly what happened to me on my first trip to Thailand in 1995 !
laislica Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 When we attempted to book on line in mid December for a night train to Chiang Mai, there were only two upper bunks available, they were also far apart. The website suggested we use the Phone Booking number because "they have a different allocation of spaces". Indeed they did and we were able to buy the seats we wanted no problem. It seemed strange that they would actually allocate certain seats to each booking service, but then who knows, this is Thailand....
harrry Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 A little sad to lose that website. THey used google translate or something for the little stations on each route in the drop down list and it was nice to see places translated as "Where the maiden waits" or place of the big battle.
fishhooks Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Possibly they got tired of dealing with the same type of people who come on here & complain about Air asia. One would more-over hope that Air Asia ran their business so that no-one would come on here and complain about them. I've had a quite good run with them in the main, but many of the posts in the flavour of what you are complaining about, certainly do warrant a mention. Particularly as many many on here use their services. Perhaps you may not be the type of person who enjoys being on a forum, don't take it personally, but, just a suggestion?
