Great photos guys!!!

On a personal note to Goompa, didn't give you any likes for your images mate, not because they weren't good photos but because of the story behind them.

Sometimes things don't go as we plan in life mate, like in your case and many others also, myself included.A tough pill to swallow, but I am sure you will dust

yourself off and get back on track.......as the saying goes "If it were easy, then everyone would be doing it"

I am sure I speak for everyone when I offer you my best wishes........Your dream is not over mate, chin up and crack on!!!

Sugar with long beans growing on the trellis at the rear.

_DSC2123.JPG

ron, the fertrilizer unit appears somewhat of a overkill, investestment wise, but i am not farming sugar cane in thailand and really have no desire too.

I wouldn't call it overkill as I imagine the fertilizer is placed below the roots and because the ground in this area is so hard at this time of the year that a unit such as this would be required. Each fertilizer hopper has a three pronged ripper below and that is why the larger tractor is required.A little Kubota or Yanmar wouldn't be in the hunt even for one box and if the unit is used on regrowth that would be more so.

Another thing is i'd imagine not many people growing sugarcane would have such a unit so this particular rig would be contracted out allowing the owner to recoup some of the costs and when not required the unit would be taken off and the tractor used for other work such as cultivation. I will see if I can take a better shot of the ripper prongs which are substantial.

_DSC1024.JPGG

Hello there guys,

This type of unit is dual row for large planted areas we currently have 150 Rai under Sugar cultivation and we have 2 units similar to this, although ours are not as heavy duty as our Land in Loei is all black soil and very workable.

Hi there petite wife and welcome.

Would love to see some photos of your place, if you have a mind to share.

Here you go, this is 75 Rai block with cane and we have another 80 Rai with cane as well, we have further blocks fallow at present, we have 20 Rai just purchased for another project. 2 shots of 75 rai post-80031-0-72852300-1433208359_thumb.jpost-80031-0-15629900-1433208524_thumb.j 2 Shots of bottom end of 80 Rai it is not a uniform shape but good soil post-80031-0-18206600-1433208783_thumb.jpost-80031-0-41851900-1433208817_thumb.j

Last 2 shots top dirt red shot Is cassava, and bottom block black dirt 20 Rai recently purchased for new project post-80031-0-02152700-1433208963_thumb.jpost-80031-0-59524900-1433209052_thumb.j We purchased the last 20 Rai and had not had the soil tested prior to purchase, were going to build a pig farm here but after soil testing we will now grow further cane, and look to purchase another block for the Pigs.

My situation is I'm still working offshore, Live in Phuket and have been farming in Loei for many years good money to be made and every cent we make from the land is ploughed straight back into land purchases and land improvement, we do very well, I will retire in the next 10 years, we will move to Loei permanently and enjoy life, 48 at present and life is good.

I have been a member here for many years just never posted, I sit back and watch all the guys talking and I keep my opinions to myself, but there is money in farming in Thailand if done properly as you would in your own country, I have lived in Phuket for 20 years and I partly understand how things work, only partly.

Anyhow hope you like the pics.

It does look a bit better ,a bit of a sheen to the coat

Are you feeding it it anything, like a rice lum,,or some horse feed ,google horse feed ,and see if there any any rations that you could mix your self from local ingredients, also ,(if you have not done so already) a salt block would do it some good ,thay do contains some minrales, which I think he/she could be short of .

Another worm jab soon will do it some good.

At days end

A good photo, dont you just love Thailand, like round here, where else would you find the front axle from a sip- law ,10 wheeled truck, grafted on to the front end of a tractor.

Feeding pills to a horse is not easy! He spate it out a couple of times, even covered with a banana! wink.png

Son of owner of the 25 year old horse!

The horse is down the road from me, so will will keep an eye on progress and post improvements ! thumbsup.gif

Jimmy, I'm late to the party here and I'm really enjoying all of the photos. This is a touch off topic but we always had horses when I was growing up and we did most of our vet work. As soon as we got a new horse or when a new born one was weaned we began to feed them a treat regularly out of a shallow plastic or metal dish. We kept some grain mixed with a little bit of molasses and they love it. We did that so that they would come to us even from far out in a field. We just called them and showed them the dish and they all came.

When we needed to give them a pill we just stuck it into the treat and they would eat it for sure after coming to us happily. The important thing is to never rip them off. If they come for the dish there must be the treat in it and then you can put a rope on them or whatever you need.

Cheers

Kickstart, I strongly agree. Horses aren't ruminants like cows, sheep and goats are and can't get their nutrition from only grass. This one badly needs some horse feed (protein, grain) and it makes me very sad just to look at it. It's good to know that SJ is looking after it now.

Cheers.

Hey guys ... thanks for the interest here, but I cannot take credit for looking after the horse.... It just happens to be down the road from where I live! ..... it all started by taking a photo and posting it!

But because of the interest generated on this and the Samui News forum, story running here too! (I did not make up the headline...)

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/825113-pony-in-samui-that-needed-community-help-gets-prayers-answered/

and dozens of emails and PM's back and forth... the owner of the horse was tracked down.... that's when we managed to find a vet for the start of the treatments...

The vet is due for a second visit soon, but I have not heard when that will be.... The management and Thai staff at Miskawaan Resort in Maenam, Samui, did the tracking down and donated the initial funds thumbsup.gif

Salt lick is a good idea ... I'll look into that, although never seen them in Thailand....wink.png

I had a feeling you were going to say you can not find salt licks, you need a cow area Bang-saphan, in Prachuap kirikhan province has a dairy co-op,they will have some, And I think the Thai/Denmark milk company has center down south somewhere, big centers near Ratchaburi, and the Nong po milk co-op,a fair way for you but if someone is going that way........in Thai they would be Gon-Rare-Tart กอ้นแร่ธาต.
