This is a very rare sighting around here these days. This is the 1st one I've seen for months where there used to

be quite a number before.I've been told that very high maintenance needed was the reason they have disappeared

and operaters went back to the larger old style machines.

My understanding is that the government imposed a serious tax on all of theses machine for traveling out of their area. This was done to reduce the amount of rice harvested. Nothing to do about maintenance.

I don't doubt that what you say regards the tax although as I said, the maintenance was a big factor at least in this area. One chap had two kubota machines

and gave them up after 6 months. As far as the tax goes, to me that doesn't make sense and doesn't explain why they went back to the older type of harvester

like the one in Jimmy's post above. By the way, when did this tax come into being ?

No argument on the maintenance cost as that could be a factor but that tax is a fact and was imposed last year to keep these machines from roaming out of their area. As for enforcement that can very. The tax was imposed last year by the junta and is still ineffect.

These machines were disappearing 2 to 3 years before that.

Not in my area. They still sell like hot cakes. Even with the tax restrictions on movement and the tax is even on ANY machine just not the one in your photo.
