Something strange is going on at the moment with the cinema. LIfe of Pi has been postponed twice. It was not showing yesterday, when the films normally change, but is being shown today at 19.15 and 21.50. Most people will check films for the week on Thursday, so will not even be aware that is is showing, and I wonder if it is a way to say that no one wants to see this type of film. So if you can, please go to one of this evening's performances to show that we do want more non gore or fantasy films in Samui. Many thanks

Not having a clue what this film was I Googled it. What were you saying about not wanting fantasy?

Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel by Yann Martel published in 2001.

I remember a topic before about the manager of the cinema hating westerners and western movies ... Many a case before of blockbuster films being shown in Bangkok , but not samui ... Then being advertised to show in samui , but not being shown

Maybe a good buiness idea for amferang to open a mini ferang cinema , similar to the old Bollywood places in the uk back in the 60's to cater for the local Indian population :)

Not sure if that is correct Boater. Might be right, but whenever I go and see a film there (not often admittedly) the place is always nearly empty! I tend to only go to see adventure/fantasy/blockbusters (James Bond etc)

I have never had to disturb anyone to get to a good seat.

I suspect that there are not many buyers for farang films.

Note to OP - Sorry Ray, I cannot get excited about a film about a kid and an animated tiger! I won't be reading the book either.

Life of Pi is an allegory rather than a fantasy. Apologies to the Wikepedia author who obviously did not know the difference
